All these agencies need to do is flip the channel switch on their radios for interoperability. Instead, they choose to waste vaulable time by having their dispatcher contact the other dispatcher, etc...

Most everyone on the Western portion of Cuyahoga County (with the exception of those on the Parma & SWRCN systems) are all on hi-band and have each other's channels in their radios.

The sad thing is that I know the guy over at Cleveland Communications. He's more worried about making $$$ than about having interoperability.

What the County should have done was set up a county-wide TRS and say 'all agencies have the option of joining if they so choose' and giving talkgroups on the system to all agencies in the County. But, this County doesn't think that way. There's TOO MUCH POLITICS in Cuyahoga County to think straight.

In addition, Cleveland very rarely goes on ANY kind of Mutual Aid response unless it's to East Cleveland. All Ohio Law Enforcement vehicles were supposed to have a LEERN (Law Enforcement Emergency Radio Network) in the vehicle. Yet, Cleveland has only a handful of those radios in cars. If there is a pursuit in one of the suburbs and it goes in to Cleveland, forget about getting in contact with CPD. You gotta go through your dispatcher, then CPD Radio, then, if you're lucky, a CPD cop will leave the Coffee shop to assist.

Doesn't have to smell like anything, It tells you in the article:

The project's vendor, Tyco Electronics, already has a contract with the city of Parma. Tyco was formerly part of General Electric and generated $38 billion in sales last year.

Who is Tyco? M/A Com....

ok scan good point i may not be smart but i realize that ma/com is owned by tyco. i was just trying to be smart on this issue. tyco owns way too much stuff anyway just like my adt system and soforth. anyway what do you think of the two types of systems moto or edacs. i am familiar with only edacs as i used to be on wayne in indy and meca was the other one. from what i am told the safe-t does not work well up here along the state lines even with mpscs being to the north of me. anyway whatever haoppened to the old edacs system did they even keep it or sell it. tell me what you think of each system freak... :)

Tyco owns M/A-Com and was never part of GE.

First, there was GE Mobile Radio (part of GE corp)
GE entered a joint venture with Ericsson (hence Ericsson-GE or EGE)
Ericsson then bought out GE Mobile Radio (Hence Ericsson)
Ericsson then sold to Comm-Net Critical Communications
Comm-Net Critical Communications then sold to M/A-Com (part of Tyco)

Re: LEERN in Northeast Ohio

On New Years Eve I was able to catch a pretty effective use of LEERN that lead to the arrest of an individual.

Apparently, someone stole some merchandise from Beachwood Place Mall and took off out the door and into a vehilce. Beachwood police were able to locate the vehicle and began pursuit onto I-271 North. LEERN was used to communicate with the Hillcrest agencies and Euclid PD. Euclid ended up apprehending the suspect in Cleveland's 6th district.

LEERN was used to coordinate everything and was actually very effective, but the key here is the agenices had it in their cars and in the dispatchers consoles.

Yes, the Eastern Suburbs have their act together in that aspect. Some on the West Side, however, don't.
