• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I purchased a lot of 15 used Icom IC F5061 radios from a fleet truck shop. (one of those is a F5061D that I am able to read write to)
I am able to read/write to 7 of them
I am able to read only to 8 of them

I'm thinking my cable and software are good....?

read/write radio firmware: 2.9, 5.3, 4.8, 5.0
Read Only radio Firmware: 4.9,

I think I have just found my pattern....

I am able to read only from radios with firmware revision 4.9. When I try and write I get the "No Answer from the tranceiver" error.

What is the deal with radio firmware firmware 4.9?

Any way of getting past this?

I am currently using cloning software revision 5.2

Incomplete information on the firmware revision...

When I press and hold the P0 and P3 while turning on power.

R 4.9.2 CA and R 4.9.1 CA are what show up on the read only radios
REV 5.0, REV 4.8, REV 5.3 show up on the read write radios

Something is different and I don't know what....

Thanks 12dbsinad,
What will the railroad firmware give me the regular firmware wont?

I had a reply on another forum indicating this was firmware for an AVL application...? Same thing?

These radios were used in an industry that was no where near/connected to any sort of railroad....

Nothing that you will find useful.

No. The firmware you posted was that of a "RR" radio.

These radios were used in an industry that was no where near/connected to any sort of railroad....
But that doesn't mean the radios cannot be used in other applications. Someone got sold railroad radios regardless if they knew it or not. They will still work. You'll need to find RR software if you'd like to program these. I can find the correct revision for you if you want.

OK. Disregard everything I said. Blonde moment. Those radios are in fact AVL radios. They have EMDC firmware or "enhanced MDC". You will need the EMDC software to program them.

Sorry for the confusion. RR radios use 4.6.2, etc firmware and I was mistaken.

I found out it wasn't RR when I tried that software.

Now to locate Enhanced MDC software...
