Anyone know if they use the same board layout and parts list as the Pro 2006 model

Pro-2005/2006 scanners

The Pro-2005 & Pro-2006 scanners have identical pc board layouts and have the same features.

The main difference being the 2006 has an on / off backlight switch instead of a dimmer switch like on the 2005. The 2005 switch can be modified to be on / off but requires extensive soldering and/or desoldering skills as well as the ability to read schematics diagrams.

The PRO-2005 scanned at 16 channels/sec while the PRO-2006 scans at 26 ch/sec. There is a diode modification to increase the PRO-2005 speed to 20 ch/sec. The two radios have a different CPU and clock rate.

Early production PRO-2006's had a backlight dimmer switch like the PRO-2005. In November 1991 this was changed to a backlight on/off switch for the PRO-2006 and the catalog number became 20-145A. In the 'ON' position the backlight brightness is mid-way between bright and dim compared to the older PRO-2006 backlight brightness.

Does this mean the Schematic I have for the 2006 be the same for the 2005 except for dimmer switch etc
I have a cpuple of burnt out resistors and caps so these should be identical and in same place on Circuit board

I have not checked every part to confirm that the two radios are largely identical. There was a known change to the squelch circuit in the PRO-2006. Are you trying to repair a PRO-2005? Can you identify which parts need to be replaced by component reference number or post a picture of the damaged area on the board?

The boards have different part numbers and may not be identical. The bad resistors and caps might be the same value in both the PRO-2005 and PRO-2006 but it would be best to confirm that. I have schematics for both and can do the comparison once the components are identified.
