• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I hear ya. At least it’s only $8. Some other vintage manuals are $20-ish or more.

I'm guessing this is probably an 80's era model. There is nothing spectacular about this model handheld, but it's not junk either, unless the two you have are in particularly bad condition. The majority of Radio Shack's radios from this era were manufactured by General Research Electronics of Japan (GRE). Build quality was generally good and they worked as advertised.

Have you tried loading fresh batteries in one of them to see if it powers up? Usually, they take AA cells.

I didn't do batteries but I did make a 12v input wire from my power supply, one made noise the other didn't do anything. Mainly I'm trying to figure out what freq A B C are so I know what to listen for 🤔

These handhelds required crystals and could operate on any three (3) of the 40 CB channels. The frequency and/or channel number would be marked on the crystals, which are installed in sockets inside the radio. I'm not sure if the crystals are accessible by removing the battery compartment door or if it requires opening the radio. Making noise is a good sign. Perhaps the one that didn't had the squelch control turned up. The squelch silences the speaker when no signal is being received.

I tried turning squelch full both was and got nothing. The battery compartment is just battery so I'll carefully pop the back off and look at the crystals..
Do the crystals just pop out?
I'm a HAM and buy the SILENT KEY little drawer cabinets of stuff nobody else wants for parts and know i have some crystals in there 🤔

The crystals have two pins that insert into sockets on the PC board. Pull up gently to remove them. The frequency is often stamped into the top of the crystal.

I had that catalog....might still have it some where. Getting the new Radio Shack catalog used to be a big deal. Lost a decent amount of time on that website, too.

So I'm not long on cb no how lol
It works on channel 14 only? Or what's with the ABC?
Tried to open it but it wasn't happy to come apart so I didn't want to force it. Any advice on how to get it to cooperate?
One scre top right corner on back and 2 in battery compartment was all I saw.

No,WTP meant that it came standard with crystals for Channel 14 installed. The purchaser could add crystals for the other two channels. ABC = 3 channels.

Not sure about how to open it.
