• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Leave it stock, it will work better that way.
As far as schematics the sam's photofact books had them if you can find the right edition.

Way back in the dark ages when they were new, one of the locals bought one and had it "peaked and tweaked". It "dead keyed" 12 watts for about three days. Suddenly he went from "blowing my doors off" to nothing heard 6 blocks away. Toasted the finals. The repair cost estimate was more than a replacement radio. Since the radio was "improved" by a non-certified repairman there was no warranty coverage on his then two week old unit.

AAHHHHHH, the good old days.

Leave the radio alone if you don't know what you are doing you will blow the PA out big time, this radio back in it's time was a very nice cb keep it as it is..........

There used to be ground plane kit available for the antron 99 from what I read, but I've never had one.
I think copper electronics sold them.

The A99 does not need a "ground plane." But if you want one they sell a "ground plane kit" for them. I have an A99 and don't use a ground plane on it. Mine works fine for local use and receives like a SOB. :D However I run a barefoot base and haven't made any LONG distance contacts with it. I've read they have a "high radiation angle" which, if true, could be a factor in making those long distance contacts with very little wattage. Not sure though if it's myth or fact. There's a lot of misinformation out there.

The 492 was my first base station radio and I got the A99 to go with it. I'm still using the A99 but looking into getting / trying some other base station antennas. My biggest complaint on the radio was the microphone connection. It appeared every time I went away ( I was in the Army at the time) and returned the microphone quit working on it. I still have the radio but it is now sitting on a shelf.

The Antron works because it is resonant at the frequency it is designed for.
Any base CB antenna should be 36' up (~ a wave length) for best results.
I have used the Antron with and without the ground plane kit. Skip and local it did the job.
I now use a Maco 5/8 fed with LDF 5-50. Hows that for overkill?
If I *was* to use power, it would get there and get out.

I've never been able to talk to any one out of my area on mine. But I can hear them like they are parked in my drive way. :)
