BCD396T/BC996T: Rear Serial Port

Can I control a BCD996T and BCD996P2 using the rear serial ports instead of the front, using this adapter from Best Buy?

I'm currently using the USB from the front and assuming it'll be the same if I use this on the back to keep cables cleaner. I already use a 6ft USB extension cable.

You will need a null modem adapter to go with that,

or use a cable that already has a null modem connection built in.

You can program and control the scanner with the rear port, but firmware updates can only be done with the front port.

Or get a BT-to-serial adapter and control and program wirelessly via BT. 😁

I use that same adapter programming scanners using the front port. I have never had any problems with any scanner or software using that adapter. As stated above, you will need a null modem adapter. I made my own null modem cable for cloning scanners using the rear DB9 connectors.
