Has anyone had a chance to see if they can pick up any sites from crossville? I live in the city and was pretty sure I would be able to get Roosevelt mt if not more but cant pick up anything. I get a very faint signal every once in a while from windrock but thats it. I have a 396xt stock antenna using control channel only mode. Ive even tried programming in all freqs for all sites in cc only mode. Dont know if anyone has passed thru or not but I figured it would be worth a shot to ask. Thanks

I know that ham radio repeaters on Mt. Roosevelt have weak signals into Cumberland Co. (and west in general)...

Ok. I have two more questions to add haha...i see most of the frequencies for the tvrts are an odd split like maybe 6.5 or something..when I program them in for example 851.18625 it defaults to a different but close frequency. What is this split and can the 396xt do it? If not will the default frequency be close enough? Also I have been reading about scanners not tracking 700 mhz frequencies that you have to listen as conventional. Is this just older scanners or none at all?

I have a 996xt (base model of your handheld, pretty much the same scanner in a different box)...

It's a 6.25 khz step. Mine also cuts it down on the display to 4 decimal places, but I think it actually uses the full 5 digits.

And as for the 396xt, it should work perfectly fine for this system.

The TN Valley System is fully P25 and should be programmed in as a P25 system. I know that you can program systems in as "MOT Type II/P25" and that will get mixed mode systems.

If you haven't heard of it and don't use software to program your scanner, check out FreeScan, scannow.org... It's free and works well, I use it.

No go on Rhea. If I am outside I can get windrock and sometimes roane (buttermilk rd). Barely receive but enough to listen. Picked up alot of them on a recent trip to knoxville as I was going off the mt about the 341 overlooking rockwood. Great place to receive. Picked up knoxville on their system dont know if or when they are going to the tvrts. I see they have a site or two. All in all looks and sounds like a great system

Keep an eye on the database and more specifically on the site labeled as Buttermilk Road.

A new license application was found for a new site on Buttermilk. There had previously been a site in the database labeled as "Roane Co. Site 2" which is what is now labeled as Buttermilk Road.

When this application came up, someone submitted it as the license for the Unknown site. The frequencies from the license and the site that was on the air didn't match, so there is actually another site and Buttermilk Road should be coming on the air sometime soon.

I submitted info to have this changed back and all that happened was a "?" was added to the site name.

so if I read this right, "roane co site 2"s location is still unknown?

Yes that is correct (as of the last time I checked a few weeks ago)... I can not find a license or application matching the frequencies of "Roane Co. Site 2", but it is on the air and I listen to it regularly.

Are you sure it's in Roane Co? Could be a completely different place than thought.

I'll have to see what I can find on my next trip to Crossville

No I'm really not sure where it is. I know it's on the air and from Central Roane Co., I can receive it on my 996XT with 3 out 5 of signal bars. About the only traffic I ever notice on it is Roane Co., TEMA and LifeForce out of Chattanooga (probably the chopper from their Sparta base?)

I've seen forum posts that said that this site has a good signal into Rhea County and I've been able to receive it full scale on the 996 from I-40 in Clinton.

What is this unknown site listed as in the database? I have buttermilk road? And roosevelt mt. Is there a third site or is the one you are referring to the one listed as buttermilk road? Just trying to make sure I have them all programmed as my signal is in and out from crossville. If I do get a signal its usually the windrock site and sometimes buttermilk road.

There is the Windrock site listed in the database and I can pick it up when I'm in North Roane County. It is also a site that I haven't been able to find any information about.

The one in the database listed as Buttermilk Rd is actually what used to be listed as "Roane Co. Site 2" (the unknown one)...

When the application for the Buttermilk Road site was submitted, the admins renamed site 2 to Buttermilk. However, the frequencies for the application and the frequencies for "site 2" didn't match, so it's not the same site.

Unknown: 770.55625c 771.08125a 772.00625 772.90625 774.46875

Buttermilk: http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/ApplicationSearch/applMain.jsp?applID=5259202
(I hope that is the correct application. It should be listed to "Oral, TN" I think. When posting this, the FCC database was down.)
