jgorman21, I have lived near NYC Metro area 64 years and never even heard of these frequencies.
Have a good weekend. I'll be more then happy to help you further enjoy monitoring this hobby in a "legal" way so just send me a private message.
Have a nice weekend.

I'm curious  what you mean by a "LEGAL" way

So far this thread is "Not Illegal"

For the OP - keep scanning.

Seen a few threads pertaining to people being harassed and or having their scanner taken by NYPD. Saw a thread a while back on another board stating that walking around NYC with a scanner is illegal. Any truth to that? I know there are many variables, but I am only asking about "walking the NYC streets with a scanner". Nothing more.

Thanks

If you're discreet and use a headset you should be fine I think. As a volunteer I almost always have a portable on me, I've gotten looks and such but never been stopped or questioned. I don't listen aloud for obvious reason and plus the fact that NYC noise pollution makes the loudest of speakers useless. When in uniform I have my speaker mic for that and when out of uniform, in my back pocket with an earpiece.
