Is there a disadvantage to leaving the SDS200 record option turned on 24/7? Mine has been running for a month. I do not see any performance related issues. That said, it's a very nice option.

If you mean the record buffer, that lets you replay the last 30 seconds of calls, only disadvantage is when you miss what's said and can't replay it. That's really it.

If it's mounted in a vehicle, some recommend leaving that setting off so the sd card does not get damaged from sudden power loss for those who wire to ignition system and do not properly shut down the radio. When its on, it writes to the sd card at power down.

How big is your card?
(35G is the limit)

Years ago, I recall there was discussion about possible errors when card was full, or hitting a certain limit?
Granted, that is a whole lot of recording.

I leave mine on record and dump the files every week or so.
That way, if there was something interesting I missed, I can go back.

Think that was meant to be 32 gig.

Joe stated he was using a 128gb unofficially in his 100. I was going to try a 64 in my 200 but I have @ProScan which can selectively record what I want. Be nice if the X36/SDS could selectively record.

It's only saving the last 30sec of time, not active conversations. So if there was a conversation and it happened 30 sec ago then there will be no audio to be played back. Set the time to 240 sec. The normal life span of a SD card will let it record something like 10 years of continuous audio, if you set the squelch to 0 and let it record noise 24/7/12/365.

Manual recordings, that are left on the SD card and not deleted after 240sec, will fill a 32GB SD card after a couple of weeks and will then display a warning that the card is full and awaits a user response until it can continue to scan, if I remember it correctly. It could also react differently depending of model or firmware version, that it just warns that recording have stopped and then continuous to scan.

Good feedback, thanks. I have a little over a month of recordings and the card is 67% full. I an referring to the full recording option, not the quick playback option.

I prefer to use Proscan for recording unless I'm out in a remote location away from a computer. I've got years and years worth of archived recordings for stations around me I regularly try and ID. No need to worry about SD card wear & tear

Also note that the SD card has a folder limit of 1,000, and I think each folder has 100 calls.

Yes, I was halted by a max folder error.
One thing I discovered, while sorting calls for specific events, is that I could place 1,000 calls into a single folder and the scanner handled it like normal. I just wish there was a setting on the scanner itself to adjust for quantity or by date/time.
