• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

The easiest and most reliable way that I have found is to run a cable from the headphone jack on the scanner to the "line-in" on your computer then use software to record the traffic. I used to have a program that recorded only when there was traffic so I could listen to alot of traffic in a short amount of time.

I'll try and find it and post it here for you. Its free, I think its called scanner recorder or something like that. Its a great program. I heard an entire OWI arrest in 10 minutes that took nearly 1.5 hours in real time...lol

I found the software here: http://www.davee.com/scanrec/

Unfortunately, like all GRE made radios, the 2055 cannot scan, log and record - it's just not possible due to the fact that it's not in the firmware. However, just sitting on a single channel and recording is certainly possible, and the Wiki once again comes to the rescue...

Many folks like the free Scanner Recorder, but there are other packages, too

I use an Olympus digital recorder. See Here: http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1178

Then I can upload the files to my PC. Nice portable for on the go. Does voice activation if needed.
