I came across an old IC-740 that is kind of a basket case. The previous owner replaced the internal fan with a muffin fan and now you can hear it in the audio. Plus the audio even without the fan running is distorted unless the signal is booming in, a little searching I found reports of dried out trimmer caps on one board are the usual suspects. I think the whole thing could really use an alignment. I don't really have the time or equipment anymore to attempt this on my own. I see there is an I-com repair center near me would they be willing or even able to refurbish this old radio?

Icom is just down in Bellevue, it might be worth a call to them. Unlikely they have all the parts you'll need, but you never know. They might be able to suggest someone.

I've also seen ads in the back of QST for guys that will refurbish your old radios. Some of them are retired techs from the big manufacturers.

You will probably be able to find someone who can repair it. As a 1980s vintage rig it is probably worth around $300 in working condition.
