I was wondering what channels would be of most relevance to listening along Lake Erie, and Lake Ontario [I have the Welland Canal channels in.

I've got a Uniden BCD160DN in the mail heading in, and I don't really want to program the entire band plan if I don't have to.

I always have 16 and 22A in my scan list for when I'm near or on Lake Erie but right now I have 08, 09, 13, 16, 21A, 22A, 23A, 68, 69, 71, 72, 78A, 79A, 80A, 81A, and 82A in my radio and able to be put into my scan list but I rarely put any of those in. No idea how much activity you'll hear on channels other than 16 and 22A.

Since there is a finite number of Marine Frequencies, why not just put them all in, or also site back with Service search of Marine

it's not like the ole days of Crystals or only having 100 channels

Exactly. +1 on Service Search. It works well for monitoring the band. Having the entire marine band in scan means you won't miss anything. Communications can potentially turn up on any of the channels.

Everything is always Canadian weather forcasts even when i have just usa enabled.

Yes, because some of the Environment Canada weather channels don't use 162.xxx frequenices like the USA.

The Canadian weather broadcasts use the B channel of regular marine channels. The B channel is shore side transmit for channel that are duplex.

Going forward channels with A would be the ship side of duplex channel used as simplex channel. These A channels are being renamed in USA to stuff like 1022 to conform with the rest of the world

In my area everyday i have to temporary block 30-40 hits on marine, so its impossible to even try marine.

Sounds like you need to adjust your squelch

Sounds like he needs to adjust a bit more than squelch.

Canadian weather transmits on 162.400, 162.425, 162.450, 162.475, 162.500, 162.525, and 162.550 MHz, same freqs as NOAA (USA).

US Marine only has 2 freqs in 162mhz and neither are weather freqs.

Missed those. :ROFLMAO:

So OP need to just lock out 3 channels and maybe he will then hear marine traffic. After of course he adjusts the squelch.
