I am looking for a good remote head mount scanner to mount in a vehicle that will do, of course analog, but also, motorola trunking,edacs,p25,and LTR. I currently have 3 motorola radios mounted in this vehicle all of which are remote mounts. Any ideas of what scanner will trunking IV and remotely mount?

Dave, to my knowledge, there are no so-called "scanners" that have the same remote head functionality that you are used to with commercial or ham radios. The only thing I know of that comes close is the Uniden RH-96 remote head for several of the Uniden model scanners. However, it is an additional cost to the price of the scanner. You can see one here, with information on the scanners it will work with:

Uniden Bearcat BC-RH96 Remote Head

However, as you can see a complete package would not be cheap. It would be nice if they built scanners with the same remote head capability as ham transceivers. But to my knowledge, they do not.

Alan is right, the RH-96 is going to pretty much be your only option as far as scanners are concerned. Get one while it's still available!

Icom R1500 & R2500

Although marketed as "Communications Receivers", the Icom IC-R1500 and IC-R2500 radios have small control heads that are very similar to their VHF/UHF dual band mobile rigs. P25 is available with an optional board. Not sure about the other protocols.

Since Uniden and the other scanner manufacturers haven't provided any products that are truly "mountable" in many of today's smaller automobiles, the Icom might be a viable solution.

I love my Uniden 996, but's it's USELESS to me as a mobile device if I can't safely and discreetly mount it in my car without bolting it sideways to the side of the center console or sticking it on top of the dashboard for the whole world to see. I'm not driving a Mack truck on a 1972 Coupe De Ville.
