Does anyone know if Uniden plans to update the remote head, like having the multicolor display light that will be on the new 396, as well as being able to turn the scanner off and on from the remote head itself?

They will have to do an update so it can be used with the new radios. That will be a download. That can't change the led in the head so it will still be orange.
It would be nice if they fixed the bugs with the remote head. There's so many irritating problems with it.
I use it with my 996t and my two main problems are that i can't see the volume or squeltch settings when I adjust them and I can't lockout a CC channel (perhaps any channel?) when I'm viewing the GPS info! You have to acknowledge the CC hit, then go back to the scan screen, then lock it out. So silly.
There's several more issues I've had, I'm just having trouble remember them. But those two are the most frustrating!

My "guess"
Is that if there is an update it would have to be a completely new remote head, at least to get the features you mention.
The colors would most likely be a hardware change, red for green.
As for turning the radio of remotely, the way it's built right now, the remote head has a serial only connection to the radio. If you shut off the radio with the RH, you lose the connection to the radio and would not be able to turn it back on with the RH.
You could, as others have, add a power switch to the RH, then route power to the radio through that switch. As for the red/green display, I am definitely considering the idea of opening the RH up and changing the reds for greens.

I guess that's what I really meant, --a NEW remote head, which will display the colors that the new 396 wil have. How about it UPMAN, any chance of this happening?
