I'd be curious to know if anyone else in the COS and EPC areas use this antenna on the simulcast system. I recently got one and it seems to me to improve the reception, Seems as if TG and sound is stronger. I was using a Remtronix 820S and the system always seemed scratchy and TGs and comms always seemed off. I haven't tried this antenna much on VHF/UHF as it is supposed to be even better on those ranges. Be curious to know if anyone else has tried these? What antenna do you run on your SDS100?

I have not monitored the EP P25 trunked system. I have tried the Remtronix 842S SMA on the SDS 100 and 436HP. I believe the 842S is marginally better than the 820S on VHF/UHF and 700/800 analog.

On digital, both antennas are outstanding.

I also believe that the 842S SMA is better for those who are rough on radios. I used to prop these two radios up on the wall or various objects with the 820S. I have also dropped the 436HP on numerous occasions. As a function of these falls, I have replaced said antenna many times because of the bend that occurs between the thinner top the section below.

I'm seeing good stuff with it on the EPC/ COS springs systems. Seems to be a [powerful antenna.

I used to monitor Bell County in Texas with a 4-inch SMA antenna, I could not hear crap. To myself, I say, "Duh David."

I believe this was the time I lost/severely bent the 820S. I thought the 436HP was fried or the SMA housing had loosened.

When I put both antennas on the SDS 100/436HP, it was like the difference between night and day.

I wonder if I got a band antenna . . I purchased my 842s from an authorized dealer but it’s about a 10 dB degradation on 800 MHz when comparing to the 820S. It did improve VHF substantially. . UHF is about the same as the 820S. Disappointed.

I have the 842S on my SDS-100 and have been getting a lot more than the OEM antenna it came with. I am now getting CSPD a lot more whereas before I got nothing and also SCFD dispatch and truck response also.

It wouldn’t surprise me that an antenna that has lower gain than stock would be better on a simulcast system since it can hear less of the competing interference from distant sites.

As an example, monitoring a non-simulcast P25 800 site nearby, I have these RSSI results:
842s: -76dBm
OEM: -75dBm
820s: -65dBm
I’d be interested in RSSI comparisons from other users.
