I've been searching and this one seems, to get fair ratings. Most, of what I listen to is in the 152-174mhz range. The only 800-900mhz I scan is the NXDN PD. I'm open to suggestions to alternatives of better, antenna choices. Thanks!

I have one. It works great for VHF, UHF and 800/900. If your system is 700/800 mix, it doesn’t do well in the 700.

The core issue is what are you trying to listen to and on what band? The Uniden's seem to be optimized for 7/800 MHz reception, so anything outside of that will need different considerations.

You said VHF so frankly unless it's close to you you'll be better off with some sort of external antenna.

I'm running off a Diamond 300n at home right now. I just wanted something of better quality when I'm out and about. Something that will pull in some of the weaker signals. The stock one doesn't seem very sensitive.

It's as much the radio as the antenna unfortunately. Get yourself a magnet mount or permanent mount scanner antenna for the car and you'll notice a significant improvement.

The SDS is somewhat deaf on VHF compared to the higher bands but an external antenna on your vehicle will help tremendously.

This is true. I use the Remtronix Tri-band antenna with BNC connector, distinct improvement over the stock antenna. I also use the BNC adapter on my SDS100 so I can switch from the rubber duck antenna to the external antenna on the car quickly and easily. Works like a charm.
