How is overall performance of the newer Remtronix REM-842B & 842S wide-band antennas? Do they perform on the 700-800MHz bands as well as the Remtronix 800/810/820/830 line of antennas? I think I already know the answer as usually a wide-band antenna does not perform as well as a single or dual band antenna. My goal is to have equal performance on the700/800MHz bands while enhancing VHF/UHF air-bands with one antenna.

I plan on using this on a new BCD436HP I just ordered. I know it has a SMA connector but I'll probably use the BNC adapter with the REM-842B antenna. I hate SMA connectors.

I should have searched before posting. Sorry for the redundancy.

There is a recent thread you might want to check out... The 842 does not work as well as the 820 on 700, 800, 900, MHz range. I only compare it to that because the 820 gives you the best overall performance in that range. The 842 does however work better than the stock antenna that will come with the 436 in that range.

I don't need to tell you that when you have a wide range so-called tri-band non tunable antenna it's going to have it's highs and lows, but overall, it's a well-performing antenna that gives you good coverage. It's long and tends to set the radio off balance a little bit.

Ah, one thing I will add. The SMA connection will work fine with the 436 but you are going to have a small gap at the base of the rubber and the radio. You can go to Home Depot and buy tiny little washers and insert a couple between the radio and the antenna for aesthetic value, not unlike certain ham antennas. It's not necessary but it looks better.

Thanks for the FYI. If I order it I'm going with the BNC version and use the adapter. I think it's a little more durable.
