• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I am wanting to gift a relative a scanner, he lives in Reno and wants to listen to PD/FD. I see in DB where it is an EDACS system and in "analog" voice mode. Just wondering if any EDACS capable scanner will be sufficient. I am in AZ and plan on programming it for him...thanks.

An EDACS capable scanner should suffice for now. The county is in the process of migrating to a P25 Phase 2 system in the near future (as is the state) and it's quite likely that many talkgroups will be encrypted.

The Washoe County Phase 2 system is up and running, I believe it's patched with the EDACS system, but don't quote me on that. Right now all Phase 2 talk groups are in the clear.
