Does anyone know if there are any freqs that repeat 33.80 in the South Windsor area? does 153.755 only in Ellingto or can that be heard in South Windsor - Manchester area?

152.0075 repeats 33.80, but also has pager data on it

for me, it comes in a lot better than 33.8 and its worth the annoyance of the data

as for 153.775 i've only heard it when in ellington so it must not be very powerful

jmanct18, y10k is right. 33.8000 is the best way to hear tolland dispatches in south windsor. the repeater sites are not powerful enough to make it worthwhile. your best bet is to get a piece of wire and cut it to the right distance for 33.8000 and use that for your antenna. or, you can get an antenna specifically designed for low band. the longer the antenna, the better. i use the RS 20-176 and can pick it up pretty clear so i imagine if you have an antenna specifically for the frequency it should be fine. where are you in south windsor? -andy-

Since We are On The Subject.

152.0075 Works Good On My 396T, Since My only Beef about My 396T Is the VHF Low Reception & 33.80 Is Most definitly Used In My Area For Fire/Ems, So that's Why I Have It Programmed In.

Now For The Plot Twist.

I Have Just Bought A Gently Used 2005 Scion XA.

For The Time Being I am Using The Rat Shack On Glass Antennas.

I Have A BC 796D In the Car.

On Glass antennas Are Not The Best For VHF Low For Sure.

As I Programmed In 152.0075 On The 796D, It Keeps Coming Up 152.01.

How Can I Get Around This & Program The 796D To Read 152.0075 Instead Of 152.01??

TIA For The Ideas & Suggestions

1-Ditch the glass mount. If your vehicle can use it, get a trunk mount NMO bracket. This slips OVER the sheetmetal on the trunk (or the hood for that matter) and allows the best possible RX without drilling.

2-Change the spacing for that channel (25/12.5/etc). I forget off hand which one allows for that split.

7.5 KHz spacing should do it
change the spacing then reprogram the freq if doing it by hand. You will lose the Alpha but it will set the new spacing for that channel.

The other way to get it to accept 152.0075 if you are programming via Butel's ARC250, go into the BandPlan setting and tell it not to use a band plan. That way it won't round anything, just becareful you don't make a mistake because it won't correct it.

Currently the best way to hear 33.44 is on 154.7400. If you only have UHF 460.025 off the Tolland tower is also real strong. Their new site in Tolland at the WFSB tower is fantastic. I have heard 154.7400 as far away as Danbury and 460.025 as far away as Danbury. Pretty great.

152.0075 is another great frequency for 33.80 but it does have the digital for the QV alpha pagers which can get annoying. The system also has simulcast capabilities and for a while KX was simulcasing on tone and voice. The system is an older simulcast system and the audio in the overlap areas is not so great. The only other repeat on 33.80 is Pumpkin Hill in Ashford on 460.5375. This is a scanning repeater so you can loose some of the transmission if another channel keys up.
