Does anyone know what the FCC's requirements are regarding how a PD / FD repeater must ID itself? I believe it should have an automatic CW ID that identifies at least once every 30 minutes. I'm looking for the FCC docket # that addresses this.

The FCC rules most business and public safety agencies operate are here --> 2005 CFR Title 47, Volume 5

Most identification requirements are in 90.425 as follows "Identification procedure. Except as provided for in paragraphs (d) and (e) of this section, each station or system shall be identified by the transmission of the assigned call sign during each transmission or exchange of transmissions, or once each 15 minutes (30 minutes in the Public Safety Pool) during periods of continuous operation. The call sign shall be transmitted by voice in the English language or by International Morse Code in accordance with paragraph (b) of this section. If the station is employing either analog or digital voice scrambling, or non-voice emission, transmission of the required identification shall be in the unscrambled mode using A3E, F3E or G3E emission, or International Morse, with all encoding disabled."

For trunked operations, part 90-647 generally applies. This states "Trunked systems of communication, except as noted in paragraph (c) of this section, shall be identified through the use of an automatic device which transmits the call sign of the base station facility at 30 minute intervals. Such station identification shall be made on the lowest frequency in the base station trunk group assigned the licensee. Should this frequency be in use at the time station identification is required, such identification may be made at the termination of the communication in progress on this frequency. Identification may be made by voice or International Morse Code. When the call sign is transmitted in International Morse Code, it must be at a rate of between 15 to 20 words per minute and by means of tone modulation of the transmitter, the tone frequency being between 800 and 1000 hertz."

Probably more info than you wanted though.

Simple Google search on "fcc part 90 rules" and it was the first hit. Key was to know that they must follow the "Part 90" rules.

Around here many public safety agencies use automatic Morse Code IDs. When they are transmitted, the transmitter operates in carrier squelch mode, so that their personnel do not hear the IDs. If you scan in CSQ mode, you will hear them, but if you use PL or DPL, you won't. I imagine that they do the same thing in trunked systems, but unless you are monitoring the individual frequencies you won't hear that either.
