• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

As shown here: MR300,High gain GMRS mobile antenna.
My conclusion is that it is like many other Off-road type antennas that use the vehicle as the ground plane. Higher up being better than a front or rear bumper mount which will not produce a balanced signal envelope.

Looks like the same lineup offered by Midland. They should not need a ground plane. And the gain numbers are a lie, you can't get 6.6dB gain out of a 47" tall antenna at 460MHz. The actual antenna is more like 40" tall if you leave out the spring and mount.

GME has joined the GMRS game here in the USA with some of their Australian UHF CB radios reflashed for GMRS. They also sell similar antennas:

The Aussies need to figure out that Americans require a jigawatt of power or it won't sell. Still, I love the remote mount idea. Sure wish we'd see more radios of that design here in 'Merica. I can't fit anything in my Subaru!

Sure you can, APX8500 with 03 hand held remote head. Only problem is you would have to sell the Subaru to pay for the APX.

That's going to keep them from selling here. Too many fall into the "I need more wattzzzz" CB mentality. I watched a few of their videos and they mention the importance of antenna gain over RF power. But I doubt they'll win any of the consumers who will want the negative dB gain ghost antennas.

GME has been at a few trade shows, and they looked like they had some nice public safety oriented products. Some remote mount P25 gear that looked good.

Well, that's kinda what I'm doing. I have an APX7500 with an 03 control head now. Problem for me is I spend more time on DMR than P25!
