• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

That's a receiver preamp right? Rf amplifiers are illegal on cbs and create splatter and spurious emissions to other users, Fyi. 73, n9zas

Hello CW: We have a local that runs a RFX 85 on his radio, and sounds pretty good. Don't know what radio he has. But That RFX 85 would work quit well with a U980 radio that has 12 watts out, I believe. The RFX is a biased amp and has a low pass filter in its output. See:

http://www.cbtricks.com/miscellaneo...and/rfx85hd/graphics/RFX85HD_R3 Schematic.pdf

It's pricey as the purchase and install cost approach the cost of say a Texas Star 350 having two RF Transistors (Pills) that would do 250 to 350 watts. But a U980 with a RFX 85 then could drive a 8 Pill amp with close to 1 KW out. There's many options. But running a stock radio with a external amp is the way to go I think. Your millage may vary....

Last week end was a total Gas as we went four wheeling all over the El Paso Mountains, plenty of good times, Formal and informal BBQ, Pot Luck, Steaks, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, fried fish, salads, and way too much totties and rock n roll with country western, both kinds of music. Gun shootin, skip shooting, hiking down some ravines, exploring mines, observing the celestial star formations (Oh there's a pretty one), got see a military Helo come in doing Navigation exercises real close and low, they buzzed our camp ground and waved. War stories, X wife stories, and a few sing alongs around the camp fire......

The only thing that is stopping me is,the installation of it and also it will void the warranty.

I noticed that most amps from Italy, will only accept up to 5-6 watts drive.

My 980 swings up to 14,with audio being applied.I guess that would mean,I would have to step down output in order to drive the amp without burning it out.
