• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a small collection of Ritron DTX-450 radio modems I need to program to new frequencies. I have the software and it is installed in a Win XP computer. I do not have the "proper" cable to program these radios but I understand it is a "one wire" bidirectional bus.

Has anyone any experience programming these? I don't want to "brick them". I see that the program asks to read the radio first so I assume a successful read will result in a successful write.

Anything I need to watch out for? Can I use same cable I might use for other "one wire" programming products? I Have an RT systems cable (USB) for Icom W32A, I have been thinking it may work.

The service manual I have shows that the programming pin is diode protected to the +5v line, so as long as your voltage swing is GND tot 5 v, you should be OK. I am looking for a schematic of the programming module, I have it "somewhere"..... will post copy when I find it.

Thanks that will be helpful. I don't want to brick these as they are becoming hard to find.

Thanks! Is this like their standard RIB type interface? I think the other part is a cable with a mating six pin modular connector terminating in a "phone" jack that plugs into the radio module mike or speaker jack and uses ground plus one bidirectional lead. Does that imply that RxD and TxD are simply tied together? I am thinking I can do same with a Motorola RIB as it has similar circuit.

I found some notes that indicate that Ritron just tied the TX & RX lines together. That may be the "secret".

I would venture a guess that any of the serial to one line programmers that are 5V output level would work....

Good luck

I sent a message to your "profile". I am not sure if that is same as a PM in the new forums.
