FYI, the incident was first paged out around 11:47 hours this morning in DPD District 1. Denver Fire has ops on FG-2 (albeit VERY quiet). DPD District 1 Primary Dispatch has also been VERY quiet, mostly people asking for each others nextel's.
Actually the call came in before 11:30 am and District-1 officers 123D (CIT officer), 122B, and 123B were dispatched for Colfax and Zuni at 11:31 am. Initial dispatch was that someone was calling about a 35 year old, white male (they said his name and DOB but not including it here) that the caller said was suicidal and entered a manhole cover and was inside the bridge.
At 11:35 am, the dispatcher said there were lots of concerns about him, including the fact that he could have a propane tank, needles for drugs, taser, knives, he's volatile, bipolar, not on meds, etc. That is when officer 123D responded from his car radio, "Happy Thanksgiving!"
Lots more info and another health concern for officers was aired after that and is available in the RR archives.
Obviously the third party info (from the supposedly suicidal person calling the second person, then the second person calling police) was less than correct. Police knew that it might not be accurate going in, but had to take is somewhat seriously anyway.
