I am bummed that Pasadena pd is on secret frequency. But am wondering how they are gonna handle shared frequencies with other city pd's who work the parade route. I have scanned all my life and its just not right I am hoping somehow I will be able to listen this year as well. Anyone know anything?

The parade route is divided into five zones, with each zone assigned an LASD tac channel.

Tac usage changes yearly but the will use the Tacs that provide the best coverage including ATAC1, ATAC3, Ctac1, CTAC2, and mutual aids 1,3,4,5

The parade staging area on Orange Grove and Old Towne area of Colorado Bl are usually the Red Zone.

LASD is contracted to handle all calls occurring about 2/3 mile wide strip along Orange Grove and about three blocks on each side of Colorado Blvd to the east.

Red Zone is busy pre-parade due to all the drinking establishments in Old Towne..

The easternmost zone at the end of the parade is Brown Zone and I can't remeber the other three off hand.

Also don't forget to keep an eye on the old Pasadena PD UHF freqs.
Its been noted that even since the switch to ICIS, special events at the Rose Bowl have occasionally see use off a former channel or two.

Scoty usually there is no pairing of freq's. All units working the parade route including Pasadena PD will operate on the assigned zone frequencies (Sheriff's freq's as Paul noted) for the route. Ocasionally a Pasadena officer will switch over to one of their regular channels to communicate with his station for something.

All footbeats along the Red and Gold zones (start of route through old town area) on the pre-parade shift consist of a Pasadena officer partnered with a deputy. Tac teams are 4 cars with an officer/deputy combo in each one lead by a PPD sergeant and LASD sergeant working together. Green and Brown zones tend to be just LASD, but sometimes Green will be paired with PPD also. All other assignments along the route tend to be exclusive LASD. Van units are LASD booking transport. Vendor units are LASD deputies enforcing licensing (they sometimes also have trademark investigators from BCS/NCAA working with them). Paul units are paring enforcement and are usually a non sworn parking officer paired with a deputy (PSO writes cites, deputy keeps him safe). Tom cars are usually traffic control points, for pre parade that is usually handled by CHP on their channels, but can be LASD. During the parad Tom cars are usually traffic control points just off the route to keep cars out and are LASD assignments.

Picked up a new TG on the Pasadena ICIS -- 2542.

Not quite figured out what it is. Either FD or somesort of support public works activity. Everything from being out on foot walking around talking to crowds, to headed over to FS33 to pick up supplies.
Also someone driving over to Rosemead to pick up equipment earlier in the evening.
