Pretty simple, when a GPS is connected and has a lock, is the RTC updated based on the GPS time and GPS derived time zone?

Either one or both of the above?

If not, could those functions be added to the firmware?

Yea, I read that thread earlier. There's a bug in the firmware for some of the GPS sentences. But I don't see anything in there about reading the location data and determining the Time Zone.

I don't think that exact request has been made yet - added to the feature request list. (if the time does not set the zone)

Although the BCD996XT lacked a RTC, the GPS provided the time, vehicle speed, and direction of travel. I used that to replace the clock in the vehicle which I lost when I removed the AM/FM radio to install 2 scanners. You only had to set the time zone for the clock to work properly. I changed it twice a year for standard and daylight savings time. You could also set alerts when approaching certain locations as reminders they were frequently used for radar traps. Incidentally, Moon River lived up to its name. I was through there on the train a number of years ago.
