Hi Guys,

(Mr Moderator - feel free to move this to the ADS-B forum.)

So I have the RTL-1090 working and receiving signal data - well, I suppose that's what it is - loads of 2 digit ASCII number scrolling down the screen. But I don't seem to be able to connect to the Virtual Radar server or programme to decode the data. As I've never seen it working, it's needle-in-a-haystack stuff!

Anyone any clues as to what I'm doing wrong? I read the forums on the VR site but there seems to ne no answer to my question. When I click on the "Reconnect to data feed" it says "connecting" the "cannot connect". Also "UpNp support has not been enabled" but doesn't tell me how to enable it! Grrrrrr.

Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop running Win XP SP3 through a WiFi network.

Thanks for any help which will be gratefully received.

Ok, I've played some more and I'm now online according to the green light on the RTL box. FR connection is now "Connected" but it still says that the "web server is not on the internet". I got the map up and it shows my area, but with no paints - which I guess is because I'm not connected to the web server. Progress anyway!

Just a couple of guesses...

Have the software set to connect to a Beast? Enabled TCP port 31001?

You don't need to setup a connection through the internet (public) to run it locally on your wireless network or on the same machine.

Make sure you have an exception setup in Windows Firewall to allow VirtualRadarServer through the firewall on "private" networks.

Yes, yes and yes! All those things done and I see the problem. It's not that I can't see any plots, there are no plots to plot! On the side panel, I selected auto-select and display, but the three aircraft that were indicated as tracking must have only mode C and not mode S and it said that no position info was available!

Thanks guys, I'll keep on trying. There's not much traffic around here on a Sunday except for the aero club in their C152's and I doubt if they have Mode S!
