• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Thanks, John. Not in RR at this time, correct? Do you have a location (or mountain peak name)?

Why on earth would Peoria PD ever need another site other than the one on the White Tanks. That is super high up and will service any part of Peoria with ease. Transmission from White Tanks can be picked up almost anywhere in the valley for the most part. Just curious if anyone knows.

Towers Mtn, Mt Suppoa, North Mtn, Sacaton Mtn, and several of other "high" sites not yet in the RRDB, are designed to extend the RWC footprint outside the normal simulcast area. Its similar to the Yuma system with sites all over SW AZ.

White Tanks appears also to be a "high site" based upon the RWC documents that have been posted here; it was set up as a interops demonstration project during the Super Bowl some years ago (before there was a Simulcast G), and is still used for events on the west side. The local agencies likely are affiliating with it just like Peoria occasionally does with Towers. Peoria is likely assigned to Simulcast G as its primary. If someone could run two instances of Unitrunker (Tanks and Simu G) and compare, you might see the relationships.

With the multiple sites/simulcast/systems in the Valley now, you can expect almost any agency on any system!

I honestly don't know why Simulcast G has to exist. Peoria, Surprise, Buckeye, all use the WT site and it covers everything. El Mirage is the only agency I am aware of that uses Simulcast G exclusively. I have seen the Simulcast G site...it is a small tower about 40 feet tall in the middle of a populated area....it's coverage stinks compared to White Tanks. You have to practically be standing under it to pick up El Mirage PD.

Different talk groups have different site permissions, like A1 is allowed on G, Quintero IR and White Tanks where as say A4 Events is only allowed on Quintero IR and G. A6, B6 and C6 along with some other encrypted talkgroups are allowed on B, F, G, Quintero, Outlet Mall, Estrella and White tanks.

By definition, "simulcast" means more than one site transmitting the same information on all frequencies simultaneously. The license for Simulcast G shows several sites. You likely found one of them. The other sites will give varying degrees of coverage throughout the simulcast footprint.

WQJY471 (Peoria, City of.) FCC Callsign Details

Or maybe you found Site 502 Quintero, an IR site affiliated with G that offers enhanced coverage for a particular area of the footprint.

So between G and 502, they likely have more solid coverage for building interiors and low-power handhelds that just relying on Tanks alone.

Here's what was posted awhile ago...http://forums.radioreference.com/arizona-radio-discussion-forum/178852-rwc-presentation-april-2010-a.html

My 2 cents anyway...
