What are the D-1 thru D-8 channels used for? I assume they mean the fire districts that the stations are under but are there two response channels for each incident now? Like Tac-6 for medical calls along with a district channel?

Each Batallion/District has an access channel. These are used exclusively for a field unit to contact his appropriate geographical dispatcher, based on the 8 battalions. There should be no tactical operations on the D access channels. The Tac channels are for units to use on the fireground to talk to each other. A dispatcher will probably be assigned to a tac channel if it is a working fire, etc...

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply..I just remember the old channel plan for a couple years ago, Fire and EMS on seperate dispatch channels and 1 access channel for each with about 14 response channels...Seems like more work for the dispatchers now with a seperate access channel for each District.

Even though there are separate access channels for each district they actually patch them together to group them to one or two dispatchers based upon time of day and workload.
