I can't answer 100% for those two areas but I'm in Sun City (just south of Perris) and cannot clearly monitor SB systems 6/7, 9, and 10. I can hear the control channels (for system 6/7 and 10...sometimes 9) but it's just too scratchy to bother with. I do have a small hill partially blocking my view to that direction though. Perris might have better luck but I would be surprised.

System 8 is the only one that I personally can monitor this far south. It has a great signal that covers from northern San Diego County. I've also heard system 8 clearly from east of Baker, CA. Another gentlemen reported hearing system 8 from Imperial County on occasion.

From Riverside City and Corona, the SBSO systems come in very good. MoVal might be spotty depending on where you are in the city. There is a large mountain near there which blocks the north. At 800 mhz those hills really kill your reception. This is why I cannot hear Murrieta PD until I go 1 mile south then it comes in great.

I see rumors about certain west end cities joining ICIS. Maybe that is our only hope to monitor them if they go to UHF freqs. I'm not counting on anything happening soon though.

I'd also be very interested in reception reports of SBSO from Riverside Co.

Yeah OC has a strong signal here too. I'm guessing they have a repeater on Santiago or something. The CHP uses lowband and works much better over terrain. I can hear lots of CHP comms (39.36, 39.72, 39.44, 39.8, 39.26, 39.88, 39.6). I also can get CHP from El Centro on 42.920 and some of the LA offices, especially 42.500 Altadena and 42.120 Santa Fe Springs. Can't hear San Diego on 39.4 though... bums me out. Can you hear 39.4 at all from Perris?

Regarding San Diego I cannot hear it good enough to monitor. There is just way too much cellular noise and I have hills blocking my view. But when I go on the other side of the hill I can hear San Diego RCS North control channel (863.150). I couple times I've managed to hear the San Diego RCS South control channel (868.4125 - decoded RCS talkgroups, not Ontario), and the SDPD system. But it's just too scratchy and sporadic so I really never bother.

I used to live in SD and have folks down there that let me keep one of my scanners at their house. I feed the audio over the Internet so I can still monitor SD. I did the same type of thing to fix my Murrieta PD problem...scanner at the office :) Now the only local agency I have trouble hearing is Corona (just too much static - thanks to you guessed it... terrain!).

My best catch so far in hearing Las Vegas PD from Sun City. Doesn't happen every day though!

By the way... welcome to RR! Nice to see additional folks from Riverside County on here.

I can hear System 8; CC 868.68750 with up to a 90% decode from El Centro. I wonder where the transmitter is located? I'm listening to a pursuit on 336 (Big Bear Lake) as I'm typing... speeds up to 120 MPH. Suspect is driving on wrong side of freeway... :O

I know one of the guys that helps run the system... I will see if I can get the transmitter site info for that. It may be Onyx Peak... which does have good line of site into the Coachella/Salton Sea Valley.

You can sometimes hear system 6 in mo val and often quite clear in parts of riverside... the closest site to mo val/perris would be the Sunset tower in redlands, but then you might not hear "all" the traffic of course just coming off a single site. Forget sys 10 (downtown san berdoo). Sys 8 is up on the mountains so yeah you can hear it everywhere. I can hear that coming down the hill from the immigration checkpoint on the I15 in temecula. Sys 8 sites include, to my knowledge, Strawberry, Heaps, Bertha (north shore of big bear), and possibly Onyx (not sure of this one). Heaps relays most everything up in to the high desert systems. Snow pk (southeast of san gorgonio and much lower) relays out to the 29 Palms area. Sys 6 is Sunset, little mountainan, and jurupa, if i remember correctly... its been a while :)

Update

Regarding System 6/7... I had to go up to Moreno Valley today and was able to pick it up south of March ARB. But when I got to my destination in Moreno Valley it was unheard....Box Springs mountain in the way. But the fact Rialto PD was heard from north Perris gives some hope it might be possible to monitor 6/7 from the area, especially with a yagi.

Another thing I did notice was how good LA stuff comes in from the Moreno Valley area. I was on the 60 going east and I heard Beverly Hills FD and Long Beach PD with pretty good clarity.

Further testing

Yesterday I was passing the area of Ramona Expressway and Nuevo Rd exit on the 215 and SB system 6/7 came in nearly full quieting. 6-WVC-2, 6-FON-1, 7-EVC-1 and others were all received when I tested. This was using an antenna on the car (the Valor hershey kiss ant), so I am pretty convinced you can hear this system from areas in Perris, especially if you have an outdoor antenna up.
