Here is a link to a well known web site that tracks U.S. scanner laws -> U.S. Scanner Laws

According to the site, there are no known scanner laws in SC, mobile or otherwise. Happy scanning!

Thanks I rarely scan, but decided this trip to see the family I would listen to some of the new P25 sites on my truck mobile.

Some law enforcement officers install Digital scanners in their cars and Spartanburg Police actually purchased several scanners for select officers. Good Luck.

SC Scanner Laws

I was wondering the same thing. From a reliable source in the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office has told me there are no current laws that disallows motor vehicle operators for having a scanner in their vehicle. But if we, vehicle drivers allow such distractions from our electronic devices such as blackberry, apple and even our enjoyed scanner listening devices we can be held accountable for accidents if we become distracted. Here's Dorchester County:

Editor's note—

Ord. No. 09-0103, adopted Feb. 11, 2009, amended § 28-47 in its entirety to read as herein set out. Former § 28-47, was previously entitled "Careless driving".
