I've put together an SCA detector and want to try it out. Does anyone know of a list of FM broadcast stations that transmit SCA signals?

Thanks.

There used to be a book called FM Atlas that would provide you with the answer. Don't know if it's still around.

Some stations have stopped using their subcarriers for background music and special-interest programming, due to the wide range of satellite genre possibilities.

A local station here used to use their 67 kHz subcarrier for a background music subscription service, and their 57 kHz subcarrier for paging. I think there is also another common subcarrier available at 92 kHz.

Instead, they now use their subcarries for such things as RBDS, or just RDS. But you will need additional equipment to decode them. Some vehicles have RDS radios built in which allow the display to show the song title and artist, or just a station ID.

Hi Bernie and all,

If it's properly tuned* it should be working, just tune around and listen for the programming. If you hear nothing put a 'scope on it and look for the subcarriers, if they're present look for wiring errors.

* The resonant circuits can be tuned using an audio signal generator set to the proper frequency, RMS volt meter or VTVM and a 1K resistor. Put the resistor in series with the generator low and the resonant circuit, connect the opposite side to high and measure the voltage drop, you will notice a dip at resonance.
Note; this is the standard ISO-9000 method so you can't go wrong.

yeah, subcarrier is better used in talking broadcast.
If used for music, the effection will not be very good. Cause subcarrier is only10% signal taken
many newspaper reading radio use

No need to, Mark. Dr.Elving and his little organization that produces FM Atlas has been around for many many years, and has a sterling reputation. Just ask anyone that has bought his gear that's on the Topica list for the Worldwide TV FM DX Association. I've even met Dr.Elving at a convention several years ago. Nice guy, very knowledgable.

FM Atlas is also sold by many other retailers, and I think Universal does, too. 73s Mike

old thread, but in search of something else, fell here and found it still open. just appreciating what we can do now, inexpensively, nine years later.

for those that would still like to see SCA in action, this is the only one I get, near Portland Oregon.
