This may be an obvious question to some but...Is there any disadvantage to using an Amateur transceiver as my general comms receiver?

I'm thinking of scaling back my radio equipment to my Icom 765. The AM sounds better than my Flex and Icom 735.

Thanks,
Andrew

Been using my HF rigs for SW listening for years!!! Only drawback, is if I want to listen to SW and have the HF rig on another freq. So two rigs might be nice for that. I am a big time 6 mtr. nut, so need something sitting on the calling freq. to know when the band opens. As long as you like the audio coming from the 765, have filters you can use if need be, no problema!!!

In short, no, and in most cases, it's usually much better.

Thanks. I just wanted to make sure I didn't lose any sensitivity on the receiver outside the Ham bands. I was pretty sure, but my mind is slow today with the cold.
