I am using Sentinel to program my 436HP. I want to monitor the Charlotte UASI system mostly. Do I need to have all the simulcast channels (Union County, Stanly County) scanned or just the ones I am close to? I live in Cabarrus County close to the border with Mecklenburg County. Thanks.

Simulcast means all frequencies are the same and carrying the same traffic, if the control channel frequencies near you are different than it probably would be a good idea, if you can't pick them up because they aren't near you, then no, you do not need them.

That said, be prepared for reception issues as the 436HP (and all other scanners EXCEPT the SDS series) are not designed for simulcast systems.

Thanks for the quick reply! I am looking at possibly getting an SDS100 after the first of the year. Does that model perform well on the Charlotte system? I will miss the use of rechargeable AA batteries for power however.

You only need the 4 frequencies in red for the counties you want to monitor. Make sure you build each site individually (and not all frequencies in the same site) so the scanner knows to switch to the different control frequencies.
