Hi,

Is there such thing as a scanner transceiver? So if I were to scan any frequency, I can talk on it?

No there is no such thing as a "scanner" that has transmit capability built into it.

You would not be licensed to transmit on those public safety and commercial freqs anyway.

There are transceivers that do have scanning capability but these are public safety
radios and also amateur radio equipment which you also need to be familiar with
and authorized to use.

If there was it would be illegal to transmit on it unless you were the licensee for any given frequency or authorized by the holder of that license..If you are asking solely as a scanner enthusiast it would be illegal to transmit. In some locals it is illegal to possess a transceiver capable of transmitting on there frequencies even if you don't intend to transmit..Hope this answers your question.

What is it you're hoping to accomplish? Maybe someone can steer you in the right direction. Or was the question just academic?

I once saw a Pro-96 used as a transmitter in a security school advertisement on TV. Only saw the commercial a couple of times, then it was gone.

Somewhere I have 2 different photo's ( 2 different individuals) I shot where some "wantabe's" actually had 2 Motorola mic's mounted on his dash and making it look like his scanners where hooked up to them. He had 2 Motorola Micor style speakers mounted on his rear window deck.
Different strokes for different folks.

If the question were rephrased to read: 'Do any transceivers scan?', the answer is: Yes, they commonly do. They tend to make lousy general purpose scanners, though. For starters, they are one or two bands, Motorola at least doesn't scan more than 16 channels and you may have trouble with programming.

I have a VX-8r and a FT-8900. Both wideband. They're pretty much dedicated to scanning for me.
