I have quite a few BCD436HP scanners, only one has a problem with crashing and rebooting when the power cord/data cable is unplugged from USB power.

all my other ones switch over to battery automatically when the cord is unplugged. with this unit, it uses the same rechargeable's as the others, i've swapped batteries from other units, same result crash this is a problem because I run discovery mode and if the scanner is running discovery and it looses power, it looses that session and all the recordings associated with it.

I can charge the batteries in another charger, and when i select charge from scanner, i get "battery error" nomatter what batteries are in it, even completely full batteries.

heres the thing, I sent this scanner in for repair mentioning this issue and another issue. the scanner was returned without mention of repairing this issue, other than a note indicate 3 components were replaced.

the problem still exists.

does Uniden have a one problem repair policy per 79$ or is the battery issue a setting thing?

If you included comments about the power issue when the scanner was sent in, nothing was done, and that repair was less than 90 days ago, then I would contact Uniden for a repair of the problem at no charge to you (other than, possibly, the shipping to them). The stated warranty on repairs is 90 days.

For the flat repair cost, they state that all issues would be addressed. It's not a 'one & done' policy where only one issue would be repaired per submittal. The only exception to that would be if the scanner was so heavily damaged that repair was not feasible.

If you are getting a "battery error" message, regardless of which batteries are in the scanner, and presumably (based on your comments), you are seeing that error message even if using batteries that do not exhibit any issue when used in one of your other scanners, then probably there is something wrong with the battery compartment contacts. Either a defective joint where the individual "trays" connect, or possibly some corrosion keeping one or more batteries from making solid contact. Have you taken a good hard look for any signs of corrosion?

yes, the tray is in good condition, no corrosion at all on any contacts.

That's good. But what would be difficult for you to fully inspect is whether there are defects, underneath the battery slots, where the wiring or metal tabs that connect them are making a good, solid, contact. Or, for that matter, if there is a cold solder joint where the wires from the battery trays connect to the scanner's circuit board.

Since nothing connected with your power issue was mentioned in the note from repair showing what was replaced, there's no way for either of us to determine if they actually read your comment or not. And if they did, perhaps they only did a quick glance at that area & nothing caught their attention. If you retained a copy of the note you included when sending off for repair, and if this is still within the 90 day warranty period of a repair, I'd be pointing that out to Uniden customer service, & telling them they owe you a re-do at no charge.

Since Uniden failed to fix the problem, I would request that they email you a shipping label, if they do not make the offer. You should not be responsible for shipping charges again.
