What would be a good scanner for my semi? I just travel all Nebr. and parts of north central and west Iowa. Would like to have the search for frequencies on this. Also, need input on a mirror mount antenna.Anybody know of any places in Omaha that sell police scanners? Thanks for the help on this.

Would greatly depend on who you plan to listen too.

Randy's CB Shop (http://www.randyscbcenter.com/home.html) should help you with a product selection and mirror bracket, or you may try any of the truck stops in Council Bluffs. (Sapp Bros or T/A).

If you're not going to listen to any P25 or digital transmissions, which unless you planned on listening to Omaha too, you should be able to get away just fine in most areas with say a Pro-2055 from Radio Shack. Comes with a mounting bracket and 12v cable. You can even purchase an external mobile speaker in the event your cab is noisy.

You can read up on this scanner by going here --> http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...odsPerPage=60&retainProdsInSession=1&y=11&x=8

3 Settings of Dim on the screen, 2500 ch memory, the ability to follow Motorola trunked systems, EDACS trunked, or LTR trunked systems, plus the standard VHF, UHF, 800 and 900.

My suggestion would be the BCT996T if you need digital or the BCT15 if you do not. If you don't want to hassle with trying to find frequencies, the scanners are pre-programmed with Highway patrol frequencies. All you need to do is select the state. If you want to program it to monitor specific frequencies or agencies, you can do that too. These are very versatile radios for mobile use.

Randy's CB can probably help you with these too.

Next time your in Walcott IA, go to the Pilot on the south side of the highway and across from that is a pretty good store that should be able to take care of your needs.

Thanks for the help. Will give Randy's a call since will be in Omaha later today.I'm just wanting to listen to the sheriffs dept.and state patrol, also any 911 calls.I've heard of the digital machines but don't think anything I listen to has gone that route yet.We haul out of places literally in the middle of nowhere. If space aliens are out there, these are the places you'll find them.Just wanting to listen to something more than XM radio. Thanks Again!
