I am looking for opinons on starting a group on the TEam Talk network, to actually talk to the people we post with, the cost would be about $30/ mo and the details are below, I cross posted to the california and Az threads but forgot to post here

If there is interest i will run with it

ok folks here is the skinny:

I spoke to Fisher people, got a demo, the system could initially be set up with 2 TGs and private call is available, also car to car off the trunk, there is a catch, everything would have to be set up here in yuma. They have had issues withe cooperating dealers, and perfer to set up all radios here. new icoms can be purchased for about $300 but they could program any radio that is UHF LTR passport cabable. Because this would be a "group" , and not a bussiness we could get a negociated rate. I would act as the system admin. The more subscibers the better the rate.

I asked about busys, they occur mostly during the winter farming season(the sytem was designed for salianas offices to speak to field workers in Yuma.) Busys are being addressed with additional frequencies at the mountain tops.

System is analog and microwave covers the entire network, Tucson to north of Sacramento, including ti Colorado River and Vegas. so there is a slght delay. All sites are backed up with generators.

As was said before this is a LTR Passport system.

Communications on the talk group would be more formal than informal if there was a number of subscribers. I get paid to be a fire dispatcher so I have no patience for informal rag chewing. If there is enough interest, We could branch to 3 or four talk groups regionally, (n-ca, s-ca, AZ and NV) plus a regional-wide net.

All users would have a id number assigned to them . The Fisher people will quote me used radio prices or will take your radio and program it on the system for you. There will be a programming charge. All billing at this point will be done individually in the name of the group. (IE john smith for the "group") and you will have your own bill. However there will likely be a user agreement you will have to sign so we can dump deadbeats off the system. or other problem children. I intend to see what kind of discount we can get for paying one year in advance. Air time is unlimited, and there would be no lic needed for car to car channels.

Like i said this at this point is just a idea, i got 3 radios to demo, will use them here in yuma till i get a idea weather this bird will have wings or not. i figure 10 subscibers will be needed for start up, i figure I we can get 25 or more spread out we could have some fun . I feel it would be great to actually speak to some of the people I post with.

Sounds interesting but please elaborate a little more on what radios are UHF LTR capable. Is this an analog 800mHz trunked system or UHF like 400-450 mHz? I have some of older Motorola analog 800mHz radios that I could basically give away except for shipping and handling (could even deliver them to Gila Bend) but I don't know if that's of any use to you.

I'm confused. You want to set up an LTR passport system account through a provider (Team Talk Network) and get users in California, Nevada and Arizona to buy radios to talk to each other on?

What exactly would be the point? I'm just confused as to what formal communications would go on. As opposed to a $300 radio, programming and a monthly user fee, roughly $114 will get you a ham ticket and a decent VHF or UHF radio that can be used to talk to California, Arizona and Nevada with no monthly fees. Here in Nevada we have the Intermountain Intertie (http://www.netutah.com/rcarc/intertie.htm), the Winsystem (http://www.winsystem.org) and the Western Reflector (http://www.narri.org) which allow communications to not only CA-NV-AZ, but all over the United States and the world.

Maybe you can elaborate a little more on what exactly it is you are trying to accomplish...

Radio Network

Some answers

1- the system is a 450mhz passport LTR system

2-Not everyone has a ham ticket, the wide area net allows those that want to to join a interest specific radio network, and exchange info with others. To some extent it is a private network, though I have a ham ticket (KE7LVR) I tire at times of the rag crewing when I would like to speak about something else. I have used Echolink, and it is great. but ECHO, IRLP, WESTERN intertie are all public networks, everybody talking about everything. unless you are a sysop, you do not have your own "channel". I have been on single repeater systems in the past on bussiness band and this is similar except is is a wide area system. Also keep in mind- What are the user fees for things like CACTUS?, It is just something different.

MY vision is a loose affiliation until such time as guys are talking over each other, then communications might get a little more directed.
People could talk about incident happening in thier communities, or say a fire that began in one are that is moving to another.

If it goes, it goes, if not, not

Hello Paul ke7lvr
Maybe you should pull all these posts together to keep it simple ca nv az,

Now regarding radios kenwood & icom radios work on the passport system but not very well, if you want to do it right use the Motorola HT1250LS+ or a CDM1550LS+ or find some 1225 radios with the scholler johnson passport boards.
