Does anyone know if there has been scanner software developed to run on linux? I love to use linux, i want to make it my main desktop, but with all these scanners i have, my only option i have was to keep a box with windows on it. These are the scanners i have:

Uniden BC785D & BC796D
Radio Shack Pro-96 and Pro-2035
Optoelectronics Optocom

I thought it would be a great topic to see if there is any interest with open source, or linux developed scanner software.

Not very encouraging, to be sure. The Linux folks need to catch up on the curve here with all the new digitals that are out now.
By the way, that link doesn't suggest it, but Bob Parnass has quite an array of receivers for which he's developed Tck/Tl interfaces. For example, look at:

http://parnass.com/tk2/

and look at the left frame.

By contrast, this site lists all of Bob's software, and much more...

If we had a few more of these, I'd consider putting a seperate section in the Strong Signals software page just for Linux software, much like I've done for the Macs. But for one or two sites, it's not worth the effort....yet.

I once used a Linux command-line control program for a BC780XLT I owned. It was nice as I was able to remotely ssh into the computer and change settings on the scanner while the audio was being pumped onto the Internet via Shoutcast.

Of course, my county went digital so the BC780 was out the door. But the concept worked and was made easier by Linux. Not to say there couldn't be a DOS command-line program...but I haven't had much luck with them. I guess I am just more confortable in a Linux shell.
