Hi Folks,

I am coming over to FL in a few months and would like to do some scanning while over, I guess its not a good idea to bring a UK scanner with me as it covers the US cellular bands and don't want it taken off me, so I am thinking about getting a US BCD396T. Are there any stores in Orlando area I can go to and buy one? I could mail order one but if I do that I will have to pay about 30% in import duties and taxes as it enters the UK :-(

Thanks in advance,
Andy.

The best you can do is find a family member or friend you trust and have it sent to there address. And once you know where you'll be staying, have the scanner sent to that location. Otherwise, you'll have to come to the states and place your order from your location or find a local store who sales Uniden 396's. One thing Orlando is full of is Radio Shacks. Unfortunately, Rad Shack only stocks their products (Pro-96, Pro-95, etc).

I've arranged to have an item shipped to my hotel room before. Call ahead to make sure your hotel is cool with that. When you arrive at the hotel, your package will be waiting for you.

One possible gotcha, since it's being shipped in state, they will probably hit you for state sales tax.

Then you'll have shipping on top of that.

Scanner Stores

As someone else mentioned, the Amateur Electronic Supply store in Orlando is convenient to get to, and they have a good stock of scanners and accessories.

Their telepone numbers are 800-327-1917 (toll free) or 407-894-3238

Their address is:

AES Orlando, FL
621 Commonwealth Ave
Orlando, FL 32803 Close

They are open from 9 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Friday and 9 AM through 3 PM on Saturdays.
