Hey all,
About to pull the trigger on an SDS100. There are only 2 channels I really want to listen to. One is analog trunked and one is conventional. Can I monitor both at the same time or would I have to switch back and forth? Also, if I'd have to switch, can I program a shortcut key of sorts to easily go back to the other one?

The SDS100 is a SCANNER....
(it SCANs frequencies (conventional and talkgroups (trunking) and stops on one with activity

You program items you want to monitor.
The SCANNER churns through your programmed items sequentially, stopping when there is activity, then resumes scanning after.

You can scan the two items of interest. While one is receiving you won't hear any traffic from the other. It only receives one at a time.

You can program quick keys to manually specify which of the two you are monitoring.

There is a hold function you can enable when one has interesting traffic.

I have the SDS200 and a feature I like is that if someone is yapping too long on a frequency but you don't want to avoid it, you simply rotate the function knob and it continues to scan. I am guessing the SDS100 does the same. Not really an answer to your question but a feature I don't see much talk about. I stumbled across it.

Two channels and you want to do it with a SDS100? How do you spell overkill?

One 'channel' is a trunked system. That makes it much more complicated. If the trunked system is simulcast he'll definitely need it.

Other than a snide remark what have you to offer?

Say you monitoring a Public safety Simulcast and you hearing traffic from a Talk Group. You are currently on hold listening to that channel. To monitor two channels simultaneously the other channel has to be on Conventional and has to be on Priority. While on Priority your SDS 100 which is not good on Conventional VHF or UHF. Will scan your Conventional Priority Channel. And when it hears traffic come from it

It will interrupt you hearing traffic from The trunked Simulcast. It will cut that traffic off. And focus on the Conventional Priority traffic. And when there is no more traffic on the conventional priority channel. It switches back to the trunked Simulcast. This way you can hear both systems. But only one will play at a time. And Conventional has Priority over Simulcast. You can only monitor 800mhz Simulcast and Conventional system at simultaneously times. But you have to be on the Simulcast system. No vice versa. Can't be on 100% on the Conventional system and hear traffic from a Simulcast system
