New SDS200 today. I connect USB and turn on radio.
Message appears USB Storage - I click "E" and says writing to card.
Then message says USB Storage and is stuck there and nothing happens.

If I do not click "E", it goes away after a few seconds and starts searching.

If I try to "read" from radio, if does not show a USB card to choose from.

(I have ProScan software and it connects to SDS200. It shows the radio screen and I can control the radio) - I don't know if it "sees" my SD Card either.

Please help anyone - Thanks

Does Sentinel see the scanner/card while in mass storage mode? If not you may have to reformat the card. In Proscan favorites list editor when you read from or write to scanner there's a button to press (Send MSM command...) to put the scanner into Mass Storage Mode if not there already. When the countdown timer starts you'll then need to click "Refresh" to get Proscan to recognize the card. If you don't respond within 60 seconds or whatever time you set it to via the count down text box below (1 to 999 seconds), the scanner will reboot and resume scanning

If it sits there saying Mass Storage, that's normal. Where do you have the cable hooked up to on the 200? I believe only the front port works for use with Sentinel and Proscan.

That's normal behavior.

If you want to control the scanner via ProScan and have it actually *scan*, then hit "." (or wait) and it goes into serial mode.

If you want to program the scanner (i.e. read from or write to the SD card) then hit "E" to put it into USB Storage mode and the card will show up as a disk drive on your PC. You should probably "eject" the drive before power cycling to put it back into serial mode.

At that point, is that when you try to read?

If your trying at thit point, while its scanning, it's not in Mass Storage Mode and you can not download or upload..

I don't have an SDS200, so I can't address your issue directly. But from an IT perspective, the problem might be with the USB stick.
  • Is it an off-brand or unbranded USB stick?
  • Is it high capacity (>64Gb)?
  • Is it PC formatted (FAT32) and reads quickly and accurately on a computer or other device?
  • Have you tried copying the data off the USB to a folder on your computer, then format the card (FAT32) and copy the data back to the USB?

Ummm ... there is no USB stick involved here.

Doesn't Sentinel have a setting somewhere called 'show all drives' that may need to be activated for the SD card to show up?

That’s only needed for the “clear user data” function when you have just put a new or newly formatted (blank) card in the scanner.

I read all replies and no luck yet. I think the problem is I am not able to get radio into Mass Storage Mode. If I open ProScan, the Favorite Editor screen shows the Scanner Read and Scanner Write tabs are "greyed out". Also, the Favorite Box shows in blue letters "Favorites File Closed". My guess it does not "see" my SD Card.
Like I said in my original post, after it loads full database Nationwide, asks to select mode, I clik "E" and the screen goes to an new screen that just says USB Mass Storage - And stays on that. Seems to be locked on that screen. I hit all radio buttons and nothing will get out of that screen until I turn off the radio.
I reformated my SD Card, etc.
Also, If I unplug the USB cable from the front of the radio, that screen becomes "unstuck" and it goes away and starts scanning again.

I did...the emboldened status as well as the title you gave this thread indicates you're in mass storage mode. Please try reading from scanner via Proscan and clicking Refresh as I suggested to you in Post #2. Is the card recognized?

Same idea with Sentinel. If at first Sentinel doesn't see the card while scanner screen reads USB Mass Storage, click Refresh

Are you pluging the usb directly into the pc or using a usb extension cable?

Believe that just means the favorites file (in proscan) is not open. Do you have the ability to connect the 200 to your network? If so, you should be able to do the FTP download into @ProScan . Its slower but if that works than its more than likely a usb or usb cable issue.

What version of WIndows are you running?

That is all normal. When selecting E, it enters mass storage mode which is only for data transfer. All functions on the scanner will be locked.

When you connect and hit E, look in your Windows Device Manager. Do you see the scanner listed in there anywhere?

SDS200 shows up in my Windows 10 Devices and Printers.

I is listed as USB Drive (G:)

and also shows in File Explorer.

My USB cable is going into the back of my PC Tower.
The scanner works fine until I plug in the USB cable. Then upon click "E" for Mass Storage, it locks up. I can't use ProScan or Sentinel to add favorites as it does not "communicate with my radio.

If I open ProScan, the Favorite Editor screen shows the Scanner Read and Scanner Write tabs are "greyed out".
Your next step is to create a new Favorites File in ProScan. Until you open a file, the Scanner Read and Scanner Write tabs are greyed out.

File -> New

You should then be able to read the scanner into ProScan.
