I downloaded and installed zadig, version 2.0.1.157 as suggested on the first
page of the tutorial found at this location: //rtlsdr.org/softwarewindows

Under "options" on zadig I find my Hawking Adapter, my web camera, and my
USB dongle, identified as: REALTEK 2832U. There is no mention of the phrase:
"Bulk-In, Interface (Interface 0)" so I select REALTEK 2832U.

The tutorial says, "In the box to the right of the green arrow make sure
WinUSB is chosen not libusb or libusbk. The problem here, I have two choices,
(1) WinUSB (Microsoft) and (2) WinUSB (libusb-1.0) which one do I select?

Anyway, in the driver window I see: WinUSB (v6.1.7600.16385) and for a
USB ID I have: OBDA 2832 (The tutorial says I should have OBDA 2838!)

My next step is to left click on the "Reinstall Driver" button. I then see a
message, to wit, "The driver was installed successfully"

On that note I finish the installation, letter by letter as described in the
tutorial. Now it is time to start your radio! I bring up your radio. Before I
turn it on I see the following options in "Front End"

(1) FUNcube Dongle (2) SoftRock / Si570 (3) RTL-SDR / RTL 2832U
or (4) Other.

No matter which option I select, your software hangs, then it hands me
the following error message:

"Your Dongle is either not connected or not working properly."

NOTE: I have the bare bones SDR# radio installed. Under "Front End"
this SDR offers me: (1) Other (2) FUNcube Dongle (3) SoftRock / Si 570

If I select the FUNcube Dongle option I get the same error message as
with your scanner radio. If I select "Other" or "SoftRock" the radio shows
a waterfall and makes a noise but I can't find a station, not even on
wide FM.

I have an Ezcap 666 dongle on order from NooElec. Do you think that
dongle will solve my problem?

Thanks for reading this! Have A Nice Day!

I am not an expert on SDR# but you need to do at least 4 seperate operations. From your
thread you have only done 2 I think.

To get SDR# working you need to download 4 files, extract them, move 2 files and modify
another (and move it, I think). (?)

This site tells you what you need to do to each.

Windows Software [rtlsdr.org wiki]

These are the 4 files you should have downloaded:
RelWithDebInfo.zip
sdr-nightly.zip
sdr-nightly-rtlsdr.zip
zadig_v2.0.1.157.7z (I needed to download the extractor program)

Hope this helps, again not an expert

I had the same kind of problem a couple of weeks ago installing the latest version of zadig. After I ripped my hair out for about an hour I tried the next older version of zadig and it worked the first time.

SDR# Installation Problem (Continued)

(1) DEAR MILLAM- I used the tutorial you are suggesting. I followed it to the letter.

(2) DEAR MR ANTSY- You may be on to something. Soon as I get a chance, I will try the install process
with an older version of zadig. Please, can you tell me which version of zadig worked for you?

RTL-SDR and SDR# Problem with identical driver installations

Two installations of the (nearly) same OS. One works one doesn't. Can anyone spot my problem?
Installation #1
Windows 7 Home Premium, i7, 16GB ram tower style computer, USB 2.0 ports, Intel 5 Series/3400
I downloaded sdr-install.7z and ran the install.bat file as an administrator.
I used Zadig, opened the menu and selected show all devices, found Bulk Interface (0) and Bulk Interface (1).
Selected Interface (0) and WinUsb as destination. Installed fine.
I ran SDR# and selected the RTL / USB front end and voila! I was receiving.

In Device Manager it shows up under an entry as:
libusb (WinUSB) devices
--- Bulk-In, Interface (Interface 0)

"General" tab has:
Properties show Device type: libusb (WinUSB) devices
Manufacturer: Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
This device is working properly
"Driver" tab has:
Bulk-In, Interface (Interface 0)
Driver Provider: libusb.org
Driver Date: 7/13/2009
Driver Version: 6.1.7600.16385
Digital Signer: Not digitally signed

Again, it works great. I hope the above tells you I know how to follow instructions and do this.
=================
Now, on my laptop.
ASUS Ultrabook UX32VD, Windows 7 Ultimate, i7, 6GB ram, Intel USB 3.0 controllers
Same steps as above. Show all devices, Located Bulk - In Interface (0). Used Zadig to install the driver.
Driver installs successfully as WinUSB.
Start SDR#, select RTL-SDR / USB and get an error, "RTL-SDR / USB is either not connected or its driver is not working properly."

In Device Manager I see the device entry as follows:
"General" Tab
Universal Serial Bus devices
---- Bulk-In, Interface (Interface 0)
Device type: Universal Serial Bus devices
Manufacturer: Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
Location: Location 0
This device is working properly.
"Driver" Tab
Bulk-In, Inerface (Interface 0)
Driver Provider: libusbx.org
Driver Date: 2/28/2012
Driver Version: 6.1.7600.16385
Digital Signer: Not digitally signed
=================
The major difference I can see is my laptop which does not work has the Bulk-In Interface listed under "Universal Serial Bus devices" while my desktop which does work has it listed under "libusb (WinUSB) devices". Also, although the driver version numbers are identical, the driver dates are not.

I believe I used the same installation script and procedure to install them both so why are they installed to different branches of the device tree, and how can I get my laptop to have an entry for "libusb (WinUSB)"?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just for giggles [and if you want to spend the time to do this], try this:

1. Download the latest libusb from libusbx
- the download link at libusbx links to: libusbx - Browse /releases/1.0.14/Windows at SourceForge.net

Download that, unarchive it (you'll need 7zip or winzip).

In the MS32/dll directory you'll find a libusb-1.0.dll

a. in your sdrsharp directory, rename the current libusb-1.0.dll to libusb-1.0.dll.orig
b. copy the libusb-1.0.dll from the libusbx MS32/dll directory into your sdrsharp directory

Fire up sdrsharp and see if it doesn't work for you now.

I have a Dell 5720 i& laptop with USB 3.0 ports, and everything I experienced is exactly like you indicated above. I followed the procedure [about two hours ago] that I outlined above, and it fired right up.

Dinosaur that I am, still using XP, I had to use a version of zadig that specifically stated that it was for XP - everything else went smoothly after I discovered that.

Interesting. All I did was download sdr-install.zip which when unzipped is nothing more than a script file that automatically downloads and installs ALL the necessary software. Plug in the dongle, DO NOT let Windows install drivers. Run Zadig, and it will download and install the proper drivers. It gave me options for interface 0 and interface 1. I just went ahead and did both... didn't hurt.

When I ran SDRSharp, I selected something ending in USB... I did see other options as mentioned in other posts here; but knew to select the USB one.

Nooelec sells compatible dongles. It is possible the OP got an incompatible one.

There is an SDRsharp Yahoo group... they always tell users to ALWAYS use the install script instead of attempting any manual installs. The script automatically directs to the latest build. I'm unsure if a re-run of the script will update to the latest daily build, or if you have to uninstall first. Not at that point yet.

I actually got my install script from the NooElec Ebay page I got my dongle from.

Normally it installs fine. This thread is for troubleshooting when it doesn't

@K8DVR: If you read my post you will see that I did use the script. On one machine the script installed it fine. On the other, it didn't.

I'm not sure that "It worked for me" posts are all that helpful here, since most of the time it will work. But when it doesn't, this dll replacement tip can be a lifesaver. The dll that the script downloads is apparently a different version or source than the one in libusbx.zip. My second machine needed that version.

Answers to some of your questions

This may not get you going but might get you two steps closer....

The REALTEK 2832U driver simply will not work. It MUST be the "Bulk-In, Interface (Interface 0)"
You must figure out how to get your OS to see it (That may not be possible, see below).

You did not mention your OS, is it Windows 8? Zadig cannot see the Bulk-In interfaces in W8 for some reason, I believe it is because the driver is not signed to it's satisfaction. Windows 8 enforces signed drivers by default, and self-signed certificates like Zadig makes are apparently not good enough. It does not just ask you if you want to allow it as W7 did. After much searching of the web I did find out how to disable that policy in W8 but then it brands your desktop as "TEST MODE" and Zadig STILL did not see the Bulk-In (Interface 0) driver.

After trying that and everything else I could think of (which is quite a lot) I gave up on Windows 8 and just created a new Windows 7 installation using the "Boot from Virtual Hard Drive" feature (Google it), JUST to run this software on my new W8 laptop.

Windows 7 normally can see the Bulk-In interfaces (but in one case after an update, it could not and I don't know why).

The answer to your next question is to choose WinUSB (libusb-1.0). I have never gotten it to work with the other one.

That "RTL-SDR / USB is either not connected or its driver is not working properly." message is infuriating and frustrating. I must have seen it 50 times before I got things working. If you DO get it working, MAKE A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT! If you don't,a Windows Update can break everything again while you are sleeping...

I downloaded and installed zadig, version 2.0.1.157 as suggested on the first
page of the tutorial found at this location: //rtlsdr.org/softwarewindows

Anyway, in the driver window I see: WinUSB (v6.1.7600.16385) and for a

Cant get SDR#/Airspy to work! PLEASE HELP..

With tears in my eyes…...
I have been trying for a week now to get my AirspyOne to work.
I have tried many programs without much luck.
Having grown up on Macs I do admit to being lost when it comes to PCs.

I am trying to install onto an Acer Travelmate 5720 - 2GB Ram Running XP
I first started with SDESharp…...
Using the zadig 2.1.1.674 bundled with the package.
I too could not get zadig to see "Bulk-In, Interface (Interface 0)”
I installed WinUSB driver on the USB (interface 0) and lost my mouse…

I then re-installed WinUSB on Airspy One.
On running the SDRSharp.exe there is no instillation process as far as i can see, just launches the programme…..
I select Airspy One in Source menue and can open the controller window but as soon as i run the programme it crashes …
“SDR Sharp encounter a problem and needs to close … SORRY ... etc .. send error report…”
I tried with the XP specific zadig 2.0.1.160 which is supposed to be the correct one.. but same result …

I then tried HDSR but no luck there … on the Soundcard window I can’t see the Airspy… and under Options / Input .. I can see ( in grey)
“Load ExtIO DLL failed: the specific module could not be found”.
I have made sure that the Airspy ExtIO_Airspy.dll is in the HSDR main directory…..

I tried Mac SDRs Heterodyne … programme opens but nothing moving and no start button.

I think my Airspy does not work ….. don’t know what to do.
Please help. … THANK YOU in advance.
