Anyone have a read on this? I check Uniden's homepage 'Scanners' section daily for availability, current pricing, and new products as a sort of barometer on things at Uniden and in the scanner market. Suddenly, these two top of the line models are gone from the page. Could mean a lot of different things.

You offer a valid possibility and thanks for your thoughts. Let me share why I have one eyebrow raised that low stock is the reason for their absence. It's based upon Uniden's past/current practices. While I check this page daily, the SDS200 has shown 'not in stock' for 363 out of the last 365 days. They last had some in stock about two months ago (that lasted just over 24 hours before it showed 'not in stock' again). So, the SDS200 stock at the factory has been zero for virtually a year and yet they remain listed on the page every day...photo, price, and model number. The SDS100 had a slightly better supply story, but also remained listed on the page. Though, maybe there's a new sheriff in town at Uniden County handling the marketing side of things. ???

Interesting input and thanks for your thoughts. If I might respectfully object...while I check this page daily, the SDS200 has shown 'not in stock' for 363 out of the last 365 days. Based on your own observations of their site over the past year, one might also look from a different perspective. Maybe they are slowly being phased out in anticipation of newer models on the horizon. That could be one way for Uniden to subtlety signal that fact while giving dealers a chance to clear out existing inventories. That's a lot of maybes and a lot of conjectures on my part. Those in the know are not confirming or denying, so good idea would be to check that page every day for possible surprises.

Thanks. That is one thought that ranked high with me when I first saw this. Another thought was that they could also be generating artificial demand by making us buyers think that these are going away immediately (no replacement/new model actually on the horizon scenario). Those of us thinking of buying one (or adding one) clean out our suppliers overnight in a minor 'panic'. With costs going up and great uncertainties in the world, people are starting to hold on to their dollars. This could squeeze out some serious sales numbers in an otherwise flat market. Any other thoughts?

This isn't like toilet paper in a pandemic or bread and milk before a hurricane. Probably, the only "panic" buying would be when a highly-anticipated model is finally released.

Well not likely, since you mentioned that even when they where not in stock, they where still listed on the Uniden website. After all, these are their "flagship" models. Unless someone just got sloppy updating the website. But not likely either. And there can't be much panic buying, since it seems that no one has them in stock at the "normal" 649-699 prices. Oh I've seen a few advertised for 900 - 1200 USD by vultures taking advantage of the situation.

As mentioned, Uniden has a long history of dropping items from their company store when inventory is low, in favor of supporting sales by dealers for whatever inventory is available. Same reason the pricing in the Uniden store is usually higher... they want the dealer to always have the advantage.

I think we're giving Uniden way too much credit here for some kind of an organized effort to do something. You can get an SDS 100 or 200 for $649 and $699. They are in stock and can be bought at major reputable scanner dealers. I see that scannermaster and zip are taking back orders but Bearcat Warehouse and others have got them.

There is another thread that's active still about about these radios being discontinued and even though the Uniden product manager said it isn't true the rumors persist.

Before we talk about new advanced scanners coming out let's focus on perhaps some firmware updates that address bugs and product inprovement on the 100 and the 200 as it will be three full years next month since we had one. ;)

For what it is worth...

The only items shown on Uniden's site are all in-stock. 2 scanners (436 and 536) are listed as information only and when you go to their information page, it specifically says they can not be purchased from that website.

At least the way I am reading it, the SDS radios being missing means they have no stock.

That's MY read and I could easily wrong.

And, you may be exactly correct. What a ridiculous(!) concept change on their part. A person new to scanning, wanting to purchase a scanner capable of receiving these newfangled digital and/or trunking systems, would check out the leading manufacturer's website (hey, that's where you go to learn about products you're interested in buying) and fail to see that these two flagship scanners ever existed. They wouldn't even have the ability to seek one out at a dealer because they wouldn't know that an SDS100 or SDS200 was ever manufactured to begin with. Image if Chevrolet or Ford did this with their widely out-of-stock pickups, SUVs, or cars. "What's a Suburban?" "I didn't know they ever made an F150...I guess I'll have to go buy a Hyundai". They would be better off with the old way of leaving them listed with a 'not in stock' tag next to the pic and price. If your assessment is accurate, heaven help Uniden.

I think you're right, too. I'm sure there's a ship or two from Viet Nam lingering on the high seas waiting to rid itself of cargo that includes 100s and 200s.

Ok, here's the REAL story.....

This is ridiculous. It's been proven that Uniden removes items from their online store when supplies are low. It's a secondary business for Uniden to sell directly to the public, so they divert stock to the dedicated sellers. Case closed.

Jeez.
