Does Uniden plan to release a battery case for the SDS100 that can accommodate 'AA' batteries? It would be desireable for those using their scanner for an extended period of time without access to any kind of charger or power, IE: field work and during a power outage. Icom does this for their IC-R30.

I took my Sds100 scanner to Niagara Falls on Tuesday and I had recording turned on I was ID searching five or six digital systems and the battery lasted seven and a half hours I didn't have the charger cable with me so I had to shut the scanner off so I wouldn't lose any of the recordings

Just ordered a second battery and the charger from radio world in Toronto so this time I'll have two batteries to work with it's expensive to do it this way I wish I could have slipped in some double AA batteries but no such luck

"With 3-4 times the power needed than the 436, because of extra processors, etc. The AA batteries (4) would last under an hour."

An expanded battery case with Lithiums would last as long as Uniden's big battery pack.

The battery pack was a response to consumer request, specifically to get away from the AAs. Now that the battery pack is here (again-BC100/200XLT, 220XLT, etc) people want the AAs back.....go figure.

I can't understand why anyone would want a battery pack that is made for just one application instead of a holder that you can load with very available AA batteries.

I can't understand why anyone would want an external battery pack that would only last 3 hours or less.

If you want more runtime than that that, you need Li-ion, C, or D batteries.

How many times have we had this debate on RR? People didn't like the battery packs that started with, I think, the BC235. Maybe even before. So, starting with the 396T, they went back to AA batteries. People didn't like that and complained that they wanted battery packs.

Maybe Uniden will introduce a solar powered scanner. Or maybe one with a wind turbine.

Nobody was surveyed it was a reaction to the posters here jumping up and down wanting changes. Now the same ones are jumping up and down again. It went so far as to hope the competition even went with the battery pack.

I'll take your word for it, I was out of the scanning loop and haven't been to this forum for years until fairly recently. I have no idea of what you say is 100% accurate, I have a hard time believing that they make design choices of their products from monitoring forums, and I don't know who was yelping for integral packs who now are yelping for AA's.

I can see the point about power requirements, I can also see the point about convenience with AA's. I personally would like AA packs for airshows, guess I'll have to either pony up for another batt [unlikely because airshows are about the only time I would use an extra], lug a power pack along with me or simply get another mil air handheld just for airshows.
Designing one would be simple for uniden, I think they'd be a good little money maker if they offered the option - So lets see if they actually do monitor this forum and take requests to heart.

Uniden still makes the 436, which uses AAs. Its feature set and performance is similar to the SDS100, except for simulcast, and it uses the same Sentinel software for programming.
