I'm attempting to use the Uniden Command Protocols on my SDS100 using PuTTY but have so far been unable to connect to the SDS100 via PuTTY. I have the serial settings set to this:
  • baud rate 9600
  • 8 data bits
  • 1 data bits
  • no parity
  • no flow control
What am I missing?
Thanks, Brad

The scanner needs to be in Serial Port mode.
Choose the baud rate that matches the scanner. I always use the highest which is 115.2 kbps
The other params are correct.

To set the scanner baud rate, go to the menu -> Set Your Location -> Set Up GPS -> Set Serial Port

What mode is putty in when your trying to connect. Try port number 50536 for send and receive.
Port 50536? You're thinking of UDP which doesn't apply to the SDS100.

Thanks for the help. I've set the baud rate on the SDS100 to 115200, have it connected to my computer via serial port and use the PuTTY serial option. I get the PuTTY terminal emulator window but I'm unable to type in it. If I just press Enter I get ERR in the PuTTY window. Not sure where to look next.

The "ERR" is coming from the scanner so the scanner is communicating with PuTTY.
Input a valid remote command. If you are still unable to type it in then investigate that within PuTTY. I'm not familiar with PuTTY but thinking PuTTY is looking for a valid RS-232 handshaking that is not used by the scanner. Look for anything to do with ignoring the DSR, DTR, RTS, & CTS handshaking signals.

I'm new to PuTTY and more than willing to use something else. What do you suggest?

Success! I found a setting for Terminal Speed and I also changed that to 115200 and now I'm getting responses to commands like VER and MNU. Thanks
