Forgive what might be a simpleton question: While scanning, the display screen turns itself off. Seems to go back on it picks up the next signal. Is this normal??

I have the same situation. Screen blanks out when nothing is being received.
As per the suggestion I checked pg 35 and tried to program the solution into my SDS200.
My firmware is up to date: Main 1.10.00 Sub 1.02.01.
When I go to Display Options - Backlight Options I am presented with a different list of options than is in the manual.
Instead of Set mode I have Set Timer.
Instead of Set Key Backlight I have Set Dimmer Mode.
I do not have the option of External Power and therefor cannot fix it so the display is on all the time.

Any suggestions?

Another case of the manual needing burning. LOL. Seems Uniden has abandn the SDS line and any firmware updates.
LOL that's hilarious. The delta between the manual and the scanner is precisely because of changes made after the manual was written, introduced...wait for it...by firmware updates.

Everyone knows that which is why someone said it needs to be updated. There hasn't been an update to the manual and there hasn't been a firmware update in months. Conclusion - Uniden has abandon the SDS line of scanners.

Doubt if they have "abandoned"the premiere digital scanner on the planet. Curious, what so desperately needs to be fixed/added via updated firmware in your opinion ?

Oh, and I forgot to mention that they never fixed the hum problem even when Static Discharge figured out the real cause and cure and posted it.

For the frmware, fix the hum problem for real in hardware and then get rid of the option to turn off the amp while scanning. Also make system types applicable to zip code scanning only and not favorites lists.

If that's not called abandoning I don't know what is.

Isn't there another forum on a product you actually own that you can go rag on?
