Just found out Seals Ambulance has installed radios in all their trucks. Sounds like they might be on MECA somehow but not entirely sure. I am pretty sure they are on a 800mhz trunking system. Anyone know anything about this or what system it is to listen to them? Thanks for any info you can provide!

They do have radios in their trucks. I haven't had an up close look but just in passing it looks like a Kenwood of some kind. The antennas look to be base-loaded UHF 5/8 wave, most likely in the 450-470 MHz range, so they are most likely on somebody's commercial LTR system, not on MECA.

Seals is still around, I believe they were bought out but still go by Seals, I know the man who used to own them and will check with him about ownership if and when I see him. Seals operates in Hancock Co as well as a few other places now, they needed more $$ to expand ops and thats when they sold out (or got new funding).

Radio wise, they do have 800Mhz radios, I haven't looked at them but some rigs in the county have 2 800Mhz radios plus UHF and VHF high. Rigs on the East side of Hancock Co have both SAFET and MECA capability from what a medic told me as they assist Lawrence and Warren Twp on occasions. FYI: Buck Creek and Sugar Creek fire depts. also have the capability to to go to MECA as well from what I have heard but I have not confirmed this with either fire chief....however, one truck recently donated by the Indianapolis Airport Authority is said to still have the MECA radio in it, reprogrammed for both SAFET and MECA fire TG's. This would make sense since it is a ladder truck and the chances of it getting called to assist are greater than most other equipment the area has other than tankers.

In the past year the cooperation between Hancock and Marion Co fire departments has gotten much better. In fact with any of the Hanckcock county schools on the West side of the county Marion Co fire units are automatic on a second callout. In return Hancock Co has been responding to a number of calls for both fire and medical runs on the East side of Marion Co.

The donation of the ladder truck by the Airport Authority is an ongoing thing between the Airport Authority and the Buck Creek Fire Dept. Partly due to the Indy airshow and the proximity ofthe fire station. The Airport Authority sold land at a huge discount to the department for their new fire station to be built (actually being built now) on airport property just East of the fuel/maintenance building.

Seals is doing some patient transport for Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, such as tranferring patients from the hospital to nursing homes. I do see their ambulances on the road from time to time.

Yes, they have 3 based at the old Kahlo lot just east of the Hospital. They also have a service contract with Verizon Wireless Music Center (Deer Creek) during the concert season. I dont know if they have Mobile radio's on the Hamilton County EDACS system installed but they are able to talk on our system.

I did not know that. They probably get quite a bit of business during the concert season. They may some handhelds if not mobile radios.

Well Seal is going strong with several trucks in the Indy metro area. I know a couple people who work for them and they said they just recently got new radios in their trucks were as they didn't have any radio before, at least in the indy transfer trucks. The people I know don't know much about the radios other than they can hear all of the Seals trucks and also they hear Wishard dispatch which is why I thought maybe they were on the Meca system. I would like to program them into my scanner just dont know what system they are on.

If they are on Wishard they are System 1 and use MECA EMS TG's.

Seals

I called and spoke to Randy, the listed CEO on the webpage just a few minutes ago. He said they are using Nextel and are doing non-emergency type runs.

They do some emergency runs, but they are a "last call" service.

Maybe in Indy, but in Hancock Co and other places they do run emergency calls, among other places they cover all EMS calls in Fortville and McCordsville
