Where in the FED VHF band would be the best range to setup search groups?

Thank you.

Depends on your Area, Region and Targets, as well as how much time you wish to expend.
Please update your profile a location - it helps target our replies

Best to start in 162-174 - at 12.5 khz spacings and lock out the NWS Channels
as well as the 400-420 (some say 406, but I've found non Satellite users) at 12.5 khz
as these are the two Most Common Federal (LE) bands - there are others but start here.

take copious notes, PL/DPL/NAC, CLR/ENC
date/time - maybe even note locations mentioned (Do NOT post real-time Surv Ops)
and then keep doing it for weeks/months etc

Federal Monitoring is not like listening to your Local PD/FD/EMS - activity will vary
to also include Evenings, Weekends and Holidays when you least expect it

municipality of great state of insanity

Oh yeah? Please, do tell. For all my trouble with 400-406, I have gotten a radiosonde, once.

I figure if I was closer to the southern border or a major metro area it would be more worthwhile, but I can't tell what I am missing until I know what I am missing.

For my money, 404.8xxxx radiosondes regularly, 403.025 (DMR) regularly thanks to lazy people buying radios and not programming them, and (dredging my memory, 400.100 some sort of surveillance.

I *think* the White Whale used freqs out of the 406-420 allocations as well, but Bill is the expert.

and neither can we tell you what you are missing, unless WE are in the same area, No idea based on your profile (and not going to search forums to figure out where you post most)

I laugh at the folks who say nothing is going on in xyz yet @ChrisP, myself and many others when we travel (Work and Leisure) always find something and we are there for the short-term
