I am looking to use dmrdecode with DSD+. I have DSD+ going with HDSDR ok but don't understand how to install or use dmrdecode with dsd+. I downloaded a zip file that was posted here some years ago but there are several files and I don't see how to run an exe file so maybe i am supposed to cut and paste files. Is this still the best program for decoding dmr? Any advice or tips much appreciated thanks!

DSD+ decodes DMR natively without the need of additional software as long as you have the DMR decode option checked here:

My dsd+ doesn't have that command bar at the top any advice? Really appreciate this:

What is it you want to do here?
If only listening to the voice traffic is what interests you, then DSD+ will suffice in most cases.

DSD+ comes in two versions:
- Free: Public version (the one you are using)
- Paid: Fastlane. (see end of DSDPlus.txt file in public version archive for info on how to purchase it)

The public version is very old and contains many differences (features and bugs) to the Fastlane version.

dmrdecode does not decode audio and contains bugs and has not been maintained in years.
To run it (the .jar file), you need the JAVA runtime libraries installed.

If you are using a RTL dongle, then use DSD+ with FMP. (included with DSD+) This the way to go.
- Using SDR#, HDSDR or other pragrams can interfere with decoding if DSP is not disabled in them.
- FMP is the receiver part of DSD+ (which DSD+ is the decoder).
- FMP and DSD+ are design to work together.

Sorry about that, I'm running the paid Fastlane version & forgot about the lack of menu bar in the public release. Nonetheless, as shown in your 2nd screenshot, DMR/MOTOTRBO decoding is enabled

Ok good advice on Fastlane I will get it if you say it is stable, it says on the site it has beta/bug aspects to it so I shied away from it. Apologies for going down the rabbit hole on dmrdecode, I think my issues are around using the free DSD+ version.

Last question: I want to be able to monitor some non-trunked transmissions in my neighborhood. So can I use DSD+ fastlane to collect the talkgroups and then I can load that into a handheld that I have?

If conventional DMR (non-trunking) is all you want, then the current public version of DSD+ should be enough.

DSD+ collects talkgroups in the "DSDPlus.groups" file. (open it with notepad)
DSD+ collects radio ids in the "DSDPlus.radios" file. (open it with notepad)

Any entries will be on lines starting with "DMR"
The line format used is documented at top of each of those files.

The DMR Decode Mr. Wraith? It's an honor! Thank you for your patience with a newer ham, really appreciate it. I tried to buy fastlane yesterday for the improved functionality but something was weird with their website.

I am not the same person (He has not been active on this forum for 5+ years)

We all started at the beginning.

I would get the public DSD+ going first to see if it meets your needs.
In any case DSD+ Fastlane is money well spent and you can grow into it.

Just follow instructions given in:
snippet from DSDPlus.txt said:
Choose:
US$10 for one year of Fast Lane updates

US$25 for unlimited Fast Lane updates

Funds can be sent our Paypal account (see end of DSDPlus.txt for this address)

Please include a comment that specifies the email address that
your Fast Lane updates should be sent to.

NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT INCLUDE A COMMENT, PAYPAL DOES NOT SEND US A NOTIFICATION.
THIS *WILL* DELAY YOUR FIRST FAST LANE UPDATE.

Many people have done this and it's been OK.
If it doesn't, just reverse it in PayPal.

What is the best way to decode trunked signals? I have seen set ups with two dongles/two antennas then I also saw piece of trunking hardware, a small box with a stubby uhf looking antenna on it at www.starsandstripes4sale.com/DigitalTrunkingRadios.html so i didn't know if that was in addition to the two dongles/antenna or not. If you could just point me in the right direction that would be much appreciated.

I highly discourage you from buying from that seller. I may happen to know someone who has purchased from their eBay store. What that person conveyed to me was that it was a questionable crafted project box with NuElec SDR dongles in it with botched LEDs soldered/glued onto the PCB and a shoddy antenna bnc connector soldered onto the casing as well. Not to mention, you MIGHT need a tin-foil hat if you keep reading that website.

Here is a sample of the craft, if you don't believe me. Make your own judgment.
